USA Today Coaches Poll Released

A few of my initial thoughts:

  • I’m surprised to see LSU at #1. They should have a great defense, maybe even best in the country, BUT they have a brand new QB. That should always be enough to keep a team out of the top spot, in my opinion. He had a great year at Butler Community College, but that’s Butler Community College. The lights in the SEC are much brighter. The kid’s a wildcard. He’s also a bit rapey.

  • USC should have the top spot. Their offense is going to be supernasty, like they’re going to rock fucking faces off in the Pac 12. They have the best QB in the country, best WR corp, and now they added a very good RB in Silas Redd from Pedo State. I get it, though – the SEC has won every natty going back to ’06. That’s why they hold the top two spots.

  • No problems with Bama at #2.

  • I think Oregon is a bit high, but they’re definitely a top 10 team. That plug-‘n-play offense is for real, and they have team speed that could compete for bronze in the 2012 Olympics.

  • OU is overrated. “Oh fuck you, Dorn. You’re a Texas guy. Biased little fuck face.” Yeah yeah, go fuck yourself. They really are overrated. After their most productive WR in program history, Ryan Broyles, went down last season to injury, that high-flying OU offense looked very pedestrian. And now he’s in the NFL. They have also suffered a smorgasbord of suspensions and injuries to key players. Their defense lost some key guys, as well, especially along the D-line. They belong somewhere around 9 – 12.

  • Georgia at 6? How many times are we going to go through this? They will trip over themselves, get up, and trip again. They can’t handle it, and they won’t be able to with Richt wearing the headset.

  • Move Florida State to 4 or 5. That defense is going to be great, and I think Manuel has a good year.

  • Surprised that Missouri is nowhere to be found in the top 25. I never thought they would end up in the top 25 when it’s all said and done, but they are good enough to start out there.

  • Notre Dame at 24 is funny. They sneak into the top 25 every damn season it seems like. They just don’t end up there after real games are played.

  • West Virginia is too high. Very good offense, but they’re not playing in the Big East anymore. They are now playing some formidable defenses. Speaking of defense, WVU doesn’t really have one. Move them to about the 18 spot.

  • Texas at 15 is about right, but they have a stock arrow pointing upward. The defense will be top 5 in the country, and the running game should be deadly if the O-line can hold up. However, they are currently accepting QB applications from intramural phenoms nationwide.

    One more month…

Dorn, I wasn’t aware that the Big 12 had ANY good defensive teams. All I see in the Big 12 is high scoring. West Virginia to #18? Are you joking? Geno Smith is already the best QB in the Big 12 yet to take a snap. Texas doesn’t have anyone with the arm strength or accuracy to throw a deep out. Have you even played football before? Probably not. Don’t need a good defense when we put up 70 points in a bowl game. Wish I was still playing so I could smash your longhorns in person! Go Mountaineers!

Dorn I’m actually looking forward to WVU and Texas playing. Think it has potential to become competitive contest for years to come in the Big 12. Making the trip to Austin hopefully to catch the first match up. You and any of the TFM crew are always welcome in Morgantown for next year’s contest. We could show you a good rage session up in the hills.

WVU may double the aggregate amount of teeth in that filthy land and find themselves not bowl eligible.

      Dorn, TFM needs two things.

      1) a way to bottle-neck troll traffic
      2) a TFM Sports section

You do realize Texas went 8-4 last year with a freshman QB, and having to play a couple games with their 4th string RB right? In what was a WAAAAY more stacked Big 12. Not saying they are going undefeated, but 9-3 at best? Who do you think they are losing to? OU and maybe WVU but then who?

K-state, TCU, OSU are all top 25 teams. KSU and OSU have beaten UT two years in a row. What makes you think UT’s QB play will be improved at all? Experience?

TCU is going to get exposed this year. Between graduation and the drug raid they lost a lot on defense which was their calling card. OK State lost Weeden and Balckmon which is what made that team go.

As far as the quality of the Big 12…..like I stated above OSU lost their bread and butter in Weeden and Blackmon and are relying on a freshman QB. I look for Baylor to come crashing back to earth without once in a decade Robert Griffin. KSU snuck up on people last year, they won’t have that element of surprise this year. Hell even OU isn’t as complete as a team as they were last year in my opinion. I just don’t think the conference is as deep in quality teams as it was last year.

The fact that Notre Dame made number 24 is complete bullshit. Did anyone watch them place last year? Fuck ND.

A&M at number 28, gotta say, even as an aggie, I’m a little surprised by that. I wasnt expecting us to be anywhere near the top 25, but I guess if they’ll put ND in there then anything is possible.

Just re watched A&M’s game with Arkansas from last year the other day. They looked really good for most of the game. Just gotta put everything together.

Nobody expects missouri to be in the top 25 at any point and USC’s defense is a fucking joke. LSU deserves to be #1. Bama is top 5 for sure but I would not put them second. Oregon has no place in the top 5 and neither does oklahoma. Georgia is overrated (I go there and I say this). south carolina should be higher and auburn has no place in the top 25.

As a UGA guy, I agree. We do best when there aren’t expectation (ie. 2002, 2005, 2007). Other years where expectations are high, we shit the bed. I still think we’re capable of another 10 win season and SEC championship game, but not a NC. We always seem to fall on our own sword.

^^You’re an idiot if you think USC’s defense is a joke, an absolute idiot. They’re overshadowed by the offense for sure, an they’re not quite at the same level as Bama or LSU, but they’re close. Totally agree on Auburn and Oklahoma while I think South Carolina still needs to prove it can be top tier.

I don’t respect any pac 12 defenses. Hell I don’t respect any pac 12 teams or their gdi uniforms. The defensive line for my former georgia high school is more impressive than oregon’s defensive line.

I’m gonna go with what Sheldon Richardson said in the media this week, and the same attitude the whole Missouri program is exuding : they didn’t play in a highschool league before moving to the SEC. Missouri has to show up to play, just like their opponents have to show up. One of the best things about college Saturdays, is that no matter what the expected outcome, there’s always an unexpected twist. Every. Week. Mizzou can and will surprise people this season, and I can’t wait for that day so all the ignorant people will shut up. Franklin’s healthy, Marcus Murphy had two punt returns for TDs in the season opener, Lawrence is stepping up, not to mention TJ Moe or DGB. Pinkel has done great things for this program, and it’s about time people respect that.
