UVA Associate Dean Of Students Sues Rolling Stone For Defamation In False Rape Story

Just when Rolling Stone probably thought that maybe everything was becoming water under the bridge in regards to their Phi Psi rape fiction that captivated the nation, things get even worse for the magazine. The Associate Dean of Students at UVA, Nicole Eramo, is dropping the hammer on Rolling Stone for how she was depicted in the story.

Nicole Eramo is seeking more than $7.5 million in damages from Rolling Stone, its parent company Wenner Media and Sabrina Rubin Erdely, the investigative journalist who wrote the explosive account of sexual assault on the campus in Charlottesville, Va. The magazine retracted the story after news organizations and the Columbia University journalism school found serious flaws in it.

Eramo, who is the university’s chief administrator dealing with sexual assaults, argues in the lawsuit that the story destroyed her credibility, permanently damaged her reputation and caused her emotional distress.

Phi Psi is also planning on filing a lawsuit against Rolling Stone, but has not done so yet.

It’s also amazing that the people responsible for letting the story hit the newsstands still have jobs. It’s clear that they don’t have any problem dragging some names through the mud to push an agenda and sell more magazines. For example, look at this excerpt from the lawsuit:

“They were the result of a wanton journalist who was more concerned with writing an article that fulfilled her preconceived narrative about the victimization of women on American college campuses, and a malicious publisher who was more concerned about selling magazines to boost the economic bottom line for its faltering magazine, than they were about discovering the truth or actual facts.”

Even the lady who has the responsibility of protecting and aiding sexual assault victims knows that the story was nothing more than an avenue to push an agenda and to boost the bottom line.
