aside from this just being a basic, funny TFM, everyone as usual scrutinizes (mostly incorrectly) so much it’s pointless.
inFRATry, if you took the time put your examples in a historical context then you’d realize you’re an idiot. the CIA installed the Shah to prevent Iran from nationalizing oil at the beginning of the Cold War. instead, we gained leverage in a crucial region and access to oil through BP. America beating the commies to Iran’s oil. TFM.
the Iraq-Iran War is a perfect example of a classic military tactic, pitting two enemies against each other. by supporting both sides, we insured a weakening of both forces with no losses of our own. both sides had large losses, weaker forces post-war and we got front row seats. TFM.
Reagan freeing the American hostages his first day in office. TFM. (enough said).
If you want to be one of those leftist apologists who think America should weaken itself by not exerting power on the world stage, go read some more Chalmers Johnson or watch Anderson Cooper after you get back from your Obama fundraiser/gay pride parade. If you’d supplement what your liberal geed Political Science 101 professor taught you with some actual history, you’d know that decisions like booting Mosadegh out of Iran or gun running for both sides helped strengthen America’s position during a time when our existence during the Cold War was dependent on it.
Hey bud. I appreciate the name calling. And I’d like to address that real quick. I’m not a liberal. I do not support the Obama administration. I am not an apologist. In fact, I serve in the US Army. I vote conservatively. I went to the United States Military Academy and had no liberal instructors. No on to your comments:
The CIA put the Shah BACK in power after he was removed by his own people and a new leader was democratically elected. When we overthrow their DEMOCRATICALLY elected government it pissed them off and made them hate us. Which is why they held US citizens hostage and resent us today.
I never said pitting your enemies against themselves was bad. In fact it’s smart. But when you build up one enemy and supply him with weapons you have to accept the consequences of that. Meaning that we supposrted Saddam in hopes of him taking out Iran (remember they are now pissed at us because we fuck with their country) and when we started using his new power to invade other countries (Kuwait) we freaked out and no longer supported him (making a new enemy). So now what do we have. A pissed off Iran that hates us. A pissed off Iraq that is confused and also hates us.
Go fuck yourself and when you’re done go read two books for me so that you won’t look like an ass:
1) Ron Paul’s “Liberty Defined” (his views on non-interventionism)
2) Andrew Bacevich “Washington Rules: America’s Path to Permanent War”
And remember I actually serve in the US Military so my life is effected by the shitty decisions of our government. So again go fuck yourself.
And in reference to your comment, “America should weaken itself by not exerting power on the world stage.” Just because I don’t want America to fight frivolous foreign war that we have no business fighting doesn’t mean we will be the world’s super power. Look to WW1 and WW2. In both wars we tried to stay out of them as long as possible until it was necessary to join and the whole time we dictated large parts of the war. We supplied both sides with munitions in WW1. We got the Germans to limit their U-boat tactics in WW1. We were able to make Russia stop fighting in WW1. Germany feared our involvement in the wars (Zimmerman telegraph) and they tried to keep us out as long as possible (concede to giving up U-boat warfare for a while in attempts to appease us). I want America to have the strongest military. I want people to stop doing things because they are afraid of what we might do not have to do something to prove our power. “speak softly and carry a big stick.” Lets bring the troops home (save a shit ton of money doing so) build up our national defense and borders (Air defense artillery on all major coastal cities) and have a highly specialized infantry that is ready to react IF and only if our national security is threatened.
It appears people have taken your submission very seriously.
