Walmart Sells Halloween Costumes For Bigger Babes In Section Labeled “Fat Girl Costumes”
For some time this morning, female shoppers resorting to Walmart’s website for their Halloween costume endeavors (because homemade craftsmanship and originality so isn’t 2014) were met with absolute shock when they discovered a special tab for the holiday: “Fat Girl Costumes.”
Not, like, a costume to dress up as a fat girl–rather, a section for, well, fat girls to find costumes.
Immediately after complaints started flooding Walmart’s Twitter account this morning, I can virtually guarantee someone was fired:
@BigtimeAallyhia This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize. -Kinga
— Walmart (@Walmart) October 27, 2014
@mzmel612 We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again. -Kinga

Whoever Kinga is, he or she is really good at copying and pasting corporate “We’re sorry” language, as it appears Kinga did on quite a few occasions throughout the day. Now, it looks like Glen is handling the complaints as they roll in.
It’s still unclear how or why the section, now renamed “Plus Size Costumes,” was manipulated to read as less than politically correct. It’s also fucking incredible that the fourth largest corporation in the world can’t use any part of its $247 billion market cap to employ some kind of checks and balances oversight system to make sure that obese women getting made fun of doesn’t happen on its website, especially during the Halloween season. They know how easy candy is to come by right now, and what it does to Tracy’s waist!
The girls over at Jezebel originally uncovered this story, but thanks to the guys at Business Insider for reminding us that Target also had a big mishap recently when “Manatee Gray” was an exclusive color swatch…exclusive to women’s sizes XL and up.
“Because she looks like a manatee!!!! Get it??”.
