Watch South Carolina’s New Interim Head Coach Get Insanely Hype During Pregame Ritual

A lot of people may be skeptical of Shawn Elliott’s ability to replace The Head Ball Coach at South Carolina, but after seeing this footage, there will be no denying his intensity. When Steve Spurrier unexpectedly announced his resignation from head coach of the Gamecocks on Monday, Elliott, a longtime assistant coach of the team, was named interim head coach.

Now, video of Elliott psyching his team up by slamming into them full-speed during a pregame ritual has come to the surface.

Elliott was also the offensive line coach for the Gamecocks, getting his first head coaching role after spending 19 seasons as an assistant coach. Elliott is in his sixth season with University of South Carolina, joining the team as the running game coordinator for 2010 and 2011. He was given the co-offensive coordinator title in 2012 and led an offense that averaged over 375 yards per game in each of his three seasons.

Prior to his arrival in Columbia, SC, Elliott, who is from Camden, SC, had coached his entire career at Appalachian State, where he helped the Mountaineers to three straight national championships from 2005-07. Elliott graduated from Appalachian State, where he starred as a defensive end and led the team to a 36-14 record. As well as his successes as a coach and player, Elliott also saved two people in a car accident in 2010, receiving the NCAA’s Award of Valor.

You read that right. He’s pulled people to safety from a pile of burning, twisted wreckage – which is a perfect metaphor for the Gamecocks’ season.

Dude’s got heart. He’s hands-on. Hype as all hell. While those traits are usually best suited for assistant coaches, which Elliott has been for so many years, there’s still no telling who the head coach will be next season. Consider this his tryout. And with all that energy, Elliott might be the lifeblood this ailing team needs to defib their season.

Dammit I hope he is.

    Maybe if SC spent a little more time practicing footballinstead bluncing off eachother like a bunch of pinballs they would actually be a good team

      Doubt it. Most of our talent is gone, aside from Pharaoh Cooper. These tactics seemed to work when we were having 3 consecutive 11-win seasons. Don’t see why they would change that.

    Reminds me of my old football coach. Used to stage dive on us during huddle. Then he headbutted me while I was wearing my helmet and split his head open. Out for the game. Here’s to you, Coach Mad Dog
