Week 8 College Football Picks: Watch Out For Upsets
Sadly, there aren’t many sexy matchups to look forward to this weekend. The most fascinating story line this weekend will be if Clemson, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Florida State, Utah can overcome their decent road opponent.
Toledo @ UMass
Line: UMass +14
TSG Pick: Toledo -14
Summary: Toledo (6-0) continues their undefeated season on Saturday against a putrid UMass team. 14 points is a joke for the Rockets to cover on the road against a team that has only managed to win 1 game this season. Toledo by three touchdowns.
Kansas @ Oklahoma State
Line: OSU -34.5
TSG Pick: OSU -34.5
Summary: Articles and analysis covering the Kansas football team have slowly switched from making a mockery of this team to just feeling downright awful for the kids suiting up. I mean…it’s basically cyber bullying to point out all of the deficiencies that this “football” team possesses. Kansas comes into this game with an average 32.3 points a game in the red, however, we expect this average to jump up after this road beatdown. Oklahoma State is also undefeated, ranking second in the Big 12 for scoring defense.
Penn State @ Maryland
Line: Maryland +6
TSG Pick: Penn State -6
Summary: Maryland quarterback Perry Hills is completing less than 48% of his passes since starting in week five. Although Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg isn’t doing much better (53.1 %), Maryland is severely overmatched in talent. Let’s not forget that Maryland is also entering this game with their interim head coach, Mike Locksley, after firing Randy Edsall midseason. Penn State wins this one by ten.
Missouri @ Vanderbilt
O/U: 34
TSG Pick: Under 34
Summary: Missouri hasn’t scored a touchdown in two straight games, and still almost managed something special in Athens, GA this past weekend. Vanderbilt is terrible, just as everyone projected. Missouri’s defense will hold Vanderbilt to a few field goals, at worst, however we aren’t quite sure Missouri has the ability to actually get into the end zone. We would feel comfortable taking the under if the line came out at 24 total points. Expect a boring, low scoring affair in Nashville.
Southern Methodist @ USF
Line: USF -13
TSG Pick: SMU +13
Summary: SMU has had an extra week to prepare against in conference foe USF. USF is above average in the pass rush, racking up 17 sacks this season. If the Bulls can get into the backfield and slow down SMU’s stagnant run, this one could get ugly. The Mustangs are four and two against the spread this season, and 13 points is a lot for a USF team that relies so heavily on the run game.
UConn @ Cincinnati
Line: Cinci -12
TSG Pick: Cinci -12
Summary: Cincinnati is extremely explosive in the pass game, averaging over 350 yards a game through the air. Hayden Moore, who has been filling in at quarterback for the Bearcats, threw for 557 yards last week. We don’t see UConn, and their offense ranked 126th out of 128 teams, to keep up with Cinci. Bearcats by three touchdowns on Saturday.
Utah @ USC
Line: USC -3.5
TSG Pick: Utah +3.5
Summary: At first, we thought this was a typo on our betting apps. USC giving away more than a field goal to an undefeated Utah squad? Cody Kessler has recently been infected with the turnover bug, and Utah is just the team to capitalize on this. This game seems like a steal. We just hope this isn’t too good to be true..
