The Chicago Board of Trade putting "We are the 1%" signs in their windows overlooking the protesters. TFM.

A classier way to handle the protesters and portray the successful lifestyle would be to toss the crowd a few bottles of nice champagne with an opener. It conveys the same message as the signs through what would appear to be a friendly gesture. Classy.

I think the real question today is….Would a Hippie drink a glass of champagne? Or is it too mainstream for them?

Hey Idiot, there is no more CBOT it was merged with the Chicago Merc Exchange.

I wouldn’t otherwise comment on a post of someone who cares enough to correct a post like this, but I felt that I had to back up the TFM as I actually work at the “CBOT”, which is what people who actually work there or live in Chicago call it, despite the merger. So relax about jumping all over the correcting people just because you think you know something, otherwise you’ll look like an Idiot.

Cue the comments where people on here claim to be in the top 1% of that top 1%. Top 0.01%. FaF

Most people hear “the top 1%” and think of a person on a yacht off the coast of Saint-Tropez. When in reality the top 1% is $250k/yr according to US labor statistics. With fed, state, and city tax approx. 46% of your income goes to the government. What’s left is “working class” in Manhattan where the average residence costs $1.45M. Obama and the Libs will never understand.

^$250K is what any decent 3rd year analyst should expect to make at a respectable bank. If you’re a “lifer” in the finance industry, you had better hope to be in the top half of that 1% sooner rather than later, or you’re killing yourself for nothing. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be some reform on Wall Street but the protesters are “exactly what is wrong with this country”.

If you honestly think 250k is not enough to live on then you need to reevaluate how you view the world.

That depends on cost of living. In most areas that would be upper middle class, but in the places that regularly shell out that kind of salary, like Manhattan, that passes as middle class at best. In no place except for the trailer park, is 250k rich.

Oh please. A single person living by themselves can live comfortably on just 30K a year. 250K a year is a shitton of money. Besides, you don’t have to live in Manhattan. Just commute like everyone else does.

^Are you fucking retarded? Lets disregard numbers regarding salary and look at percentages. Anything that qualifies for the top 1% in America would be considered rich or upper class. Hell, anything in top 10% is upper class too. I hate to agree with scbro but if you can’t live on 250k then either you or a loved one has ridiculous medical bills or you’re fucking retarded. You don’t have to live in Manhattan. Your comment reminds me of when Marie Antoinette said, “Let them eat cake” when she was told the people had no bread to eat.

Not directed at you fratstar runner, just the idiots who are calling 250k a year “working class” and “middle class”

Listen guys, I never once said that you can’t live comfortably on $250,000. Obama/Buffett say they want a tax on the “millionaires and billionaires, the top 1%…” I was just stating that the majority of the top 1% doesn’t exactly fly private and that $250K doesn’t go NEARLY as far in NYC as it does in say, South Carolina. The top 1% pays 40% of the taxes in this country. As long as a Wall Street firm wasn’t bailed out, what right does anyone have in dictating compensation? None.

A single person living by themselves can not live comfortably on $30k. Maybe 30 years ago.

^who the hell commutes during the first couple years on wall street? You work like 17 hours a day. The last thing you wanna have is a close to hour long commute back to Jersey.
