Who is John Galt?
Fans of the author Ayn Rand have every reason to be excited about the upcoming movie adaptation of her most famous work, Atlas Shrugged. Hollywood always seems to have a way of turning great novels into appalling film versions but other than the fact the movie is set in modern times, it by all accounts looks to be a very accurate portrayal.
For those unfamiliar with Ayn Rand or the book Atlas Shrugged, go haze yourself for being an uncultured heathen and then pick up a copy. It is a book that should be required reading for every high school senior in America. At first glance it can be pretty intimidating for the casual reader. Depending on the size of the font, a typical version can be well over 800 pages long. Now many of us have a little too much on our plate with Spring Break, formal, crawfish boils, etc. so I recommend buying the audio book. I’ve never really been one for audio books but after listening to W’s Decision Points on my way to Colorado this past break, I am a convert.
This book has had a profound impact on millions of people throughout the world and is a major inspiration for conservative/libertarian thought. Atlas Shrugged may or may not have a large impact on your worldview but you will surely never have to ponder the question, “Who is John Galt?”
I literally hate this book and Ayn Rand. Anthem is the worst novella I have ever read. Overrated

14 years ago at 11:56 pmSTFU frathasfallen you fucking geed, you commie, bastard.
14 years ago at 12:19 amWe should expect as much from a guy who’s name is FratHasFallen.
14 years ago at 5:14 pmIt’s a question of the period the novel was written; trains were the predominant mode of long-distance travel then. It would be about airliners today. Great book.

14 years ago at 6:55 pmBest damn comment ever.
14 years ago at 7:37 pmWesley Mouch = Penultimate geed.
14 years ago at 6:46 pmI will literally kill the director if they do not do Francisco d’Anconia’s money speech justice.
If you have read Atlas Shrugged and your life is not totally changed because of it, you may as well be a Democrat. In fact, Hillary Clinton called the time period she spent reading it “a stage.”
14 years ago at 7:40 pmAgreed. Life-changing. For the better.
14 years ago at 12:48 pmGreat book, didn’t know it was going to be made into a movie. Another great book is Pillars of the Earth
14 years ago at 8:03 pmIf Atlas Shrugged does not give you a massive capitalism boner, you need to relocate to Europe. Now.
14 years ago at 12:44 amWhere’s d’Anconia in the trailer? I can understand if Wyatt and Danneskjöld don’t make the trailer (and Danneskjöld might only be in Part II), but I would have expected that Francisco would have been at least shown in the trailer. I mean they even had that gay geed Phillip Rearden.

14 years ago at 10:01 pmThis book is by far my favorite. I’ve read it 3 times. It is so American and so perfect in every point in time.
I’m sure the movie will be butchered but it may be okay.
14 years ago at 11:58 amI think it’s kind of funny that you believe Atlas Shrugged to be “so American” when it was written by a Jewish woman from the Soviet Union. I know she hated Communism, but don’t make ignorant comments like that.
14 years ago at 2:00 pmSnowBro is right. Ayn Rand was a Jew. She has no place in the library of any good American.
14 years ago at 5:37 pmStay classy, Bullets.
14 years ago at 6:46 pmSnowBro is actually quite wrong. Ayn Rand was not Jewish, though she was from the Soviet Union. She was an atheist.
However, Obama is from America, and we hate him.
So by that logic, any person from any country holds the values of that country?Think about it or a second. This book is quintisentially American. It holds the values of productive achievement, personal development, and making money in the highest regard.
14 years ago at 8:53 pmAtlas Shrugged might be one of my favorite books of all time, but lets be realistic this movie looks like its going to be shit. Rand would probably hate this garbage.
14 years ago at 12:00 pmI find it ironic, and most likely on purpose, that Part I comes out on April 15th – the day taxes are due.
14 years ago at 6:47 pmIt’s very much on purpose
