Wichita State Student Killed Attempting To Prevent ISIS Suicide Bombing

A 22-year-old Wichita State student died preventing an ISIS suicide bombing in his home country of Saudi Arabia last week.

Abdul Al-Arbash, an engineering student, had come home for the summer because he was planning to get married. He was killed while manning a civilian checkpoint, when he and his friend chased down a suicide bomber and prevented him from entering a mosque.

The suicide bomber detonated his explosives and killed four people outside the mosque, including Al-Arbash, who is credited with preventing a much deadlier attack.

From CNN:

The blast also killed Jalil’s brother, Mohammed, and their cousin, Alarbash’s father, speaking in Arabic, said in a video posted Saturday.

The elder Alarbash said the trio volunteered as security guards at the Al-Anoud Mosque, located in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood, and that they died “heroes” because they prevented the suicide bomber from getting inside, where scores of Shiite Muslims were worshiping at the time.

“The suicide bomber approached the mosque wearing (a traditional robe worn by women),” he said. “They suspected him so they stopped him and uncovered his face.”

ISIS is so damn awful. This is just really sad. All the credit in the world to this kid. People throw around the “hero” distinction far too often, but Al-Arbash truly deserves that title. Wichita State should be proud that he attended the university.

Unless you’re a full blooded Native American your family immigrated to the United States not that long ago. Stop being fucking stupid.

Jesus fuck people, work on your reading comprehension before you jump down somebody’s throat. Did you miss the part where the article said “home country of Saudi Arabia?” It’s not a question of immigration.. Al-Arbash just straight up isn’t an American. By definition he is a Saudi Arabian hero.

We’re splitting hairs at this point, but this is gonna be a little awkward after all your talk about other people’s reading comprehension and definitions and what-not. Your home country is irrelevant in regards to where you have citizenship. If he immigrated to the United States rather than gaining a Visa that means he has American citizenship. Going to say that again for emphasis. American. Citizenship. As in dual citizenship. You can relate yourself as both nationalities. Not really the point of the article anyways.

Except that nowhere in the TFM or CNN articles does it say he “immigrated” to America for college, so one would logically assume he has a visa like the vast majority of international college students in the US.

But you’re right it’s splitting hairs, and isn’t the point of the article. I just wanted to argue the point because I’m tired of ignorant blowhards like the top comment blindly labeling people as “American heroes” as if the America has some monopoly on bravery and honor.

Did you read the part where the article said that he was a “Wichita State student,” as in the university located in the US? So he immigrated to go to school here, and thus probably had some sort of American citizenship.

You mean the title? Yes I read that. Now consider for a moment that the vast majority of international college students in America are on visas, and do not have any citizenship ties to the US.

It’s also important to note that Saudi Arabia throws scholarship money to a good portion of their students that study internationally. These students study for free and return to Saudi Arabia with an American education. But that’s neither here nor there, Abdul was a hero nonetheless.

Maybe you should do a little research before you spout off and sound like an ignorant prick. First of all, Native Americans nor anybody else on this continent is indigenous. Secondly, there’s was no such thing as America until 1776 when the white colonists took power which made them some of the first full blooded Americans if not the only ones. So unless you’re a citizen of this country you are NOT an American.

You hit the nail on the head. I know we often joke about racial profiling and the works, but the vast majority of Muslims are God fearing people that are respectful and caring. Let us not forget that.

Hero= Human who risks life for good cause .
Human being an American =/= hero
      Saudi Arabian = human
Abdul = human who risks life for a good cause
      Abdul = fucking hero

      Fuck anyone who disagrees

I don’t think it’s America that gave this kid guys. I think he had guts on his own; it’s not easy to leave your home country for school. Especially when you’re leaving a country that harbours quite a bit of anti American sentiment. This kid made the tough choice to move here anyway and for that I respect him deeply. God bless him and his love for the American Dream. As we say in Texas: he may not have been born here, but he got here as fast as he could.

Don’t get me wrong I’m all about American pride but it seems kinda dick to try to say we’re the reason he’s a hero when in reality he just had a huge set of hero balls regardless of his time spent in America
