You Know The Texas QB Situation Is Grim When A Fraternity Intramural Star Is Added To The Roster

Starting University of Texas quarterback David Ash sat out game two against BYU after experiencing concussion-like symptoms from taking a hit in their season opener. With a history of head injuries, his future in the program is uncertain. Insert backup sophomore Tyrone Swoopes, who got the nod against the Mormons. There were times in the devastating BYU loss that he was able to move the offense, though his offensive package was clearly limited, as is his experience. Behind Swoopes on the depth chart is true freshman Jerrod Heard, who’s still donning a redshirt after two games.

The depth at QB is grim at Texas, to say the least.

Not anyfuckingmore, though. Help is on the way in the form of fraternity intramural standout Jimmy Greenwood. Greenwood, a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Texas, got the call up from the intramural flag football ranks to the Big 12, according to multiple sources, plus this low-rent blog. Rumor has it he lights up the score on the sideline, pledge-held dry erase board.

Greenwood walks onto the Longhorns football team and into the hearts of America. Walk-ons with little to speak of in regards to experience or athletic ability are certainly not newsworthy. Every program welcomes these types to fill out their practice squads. The timing of Greenwood’s arrival and the current state of the QB position at Texas, though, now that’s a story.

Our sources have also indicated that Greenwood was sought by the Texas coaching staff–alarming for Texas fans, but just awesome for everyone else. Greenwood would obviously be tagged as an extreme emergency option, but hey, the guy is an option. And I dig it.

Greenwood quarterbacked The Kinkaid School Falcons in high school. Check out his highlights below.

Number 69 on the intramural fields, number one in our hearts–Jimmy Greenwood.

Texas SAE should have a ceremony to retire his Intramurals number at their next flag football game.

He looks at his receiving target the whole way. He better learn to look off some safeties before he gets to play. But then again Texas has nothing to lose at this point.

This happened to Wazzu in 2008, an ATO got picked up as a walk-on during the season. If history tells us anything, UT fans are in for a long season.

Classic case of your receiver’s too dominant for you to get recruited. Glad the boy’s finally getting a shot.
