Zero Dark Thirty, the Movie About Osama bin Laden’s Assassination, Has a Trailer

Zero Dark Thirty, written by Mark Boal and directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the team responsible for 2008’s Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker (and Jeremy Renner not forever being remembered as the guy from National Lampoon’s Senior Trip), has a trailer. All things considered it looks pretty intriguing.

Usually I’m not a fan of films released too soon after an event, if only because the small amount of time that has passed between the actual event and the film’s release often creates a lack hindsight that’s needed to give a fuller story. But considering how quickly information moves nowadays the concern about hindsight isn’t as pronounced as it would have been even a decade ago. After all, Black Hawk Down was released only about eight years after the actual Battle of Mogadishu and it was incredible.

Also, Boal and Bigelow are both excellent filmmakers with a proven track record in the genre. Despite the fact that the trailer is rife with clichéd soundbites like “the guy’s a ghost,” I still think this film will turn out pretty good. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a better movie about the bin Laden killing in thirty years, starring Jaden Smith as Barack Obama, Dakota Fanning as Hillary Clinton, and one of the Muppets as Joe Biden. But until that masterpiece is released we have this, and it looks solid.

Oh and don’t worry, it isn’t due out until December 19th, after the election.

God kinda looks like an older, white version Bin of Laden when you think about it. Or does Bin laden look like a dirty wizard? Possibly even a homeless Santa maybe.

I propose Morgan Freeman does not play anyone, but does the dialogue for everyone.

It was decent… but I might be biased because of my man crush on Jeremy Renner.

Ok, could just be hearing things, but was that Jesse Pinkman’s voice asking about Bin Laden at the end of that trailer?
