192 People Cited Or Arrested As Central Michigan Turned Up For Welcome Weekend

Mt. Pleasant was anything but this past weekend as Central Michigan University’s campus transformed itself into a theater of absolute debauchery, the likes of which the mitten state hadn’t seen since my coworker and noted Lena Dunham-lookalike Will deFries left five long months ago.

Unreal.

From mLive:

Nearly 200 people were cited or arrested during this year’s Welcome Weekend at Central Michigan University.

Police in Mount Pleasant responded to 572 calls for service from 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 to 7 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, according to an Aug. 30 press release from the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

572 calls to 911 in 72 hours? That’s almost eight calls an hour for three days straight. I’m impressed.

“There were a few more (minor in possession of alcohol) citations this year and about 30 more for open intoxicants,” said Public Information Officer Jeff Browne. “Those are the only significant upticks.”

I love Brownie’s attitude here. “Yeah, we handed out a couple more tickets this year. Nothing to make a fuss over, though. Happens every year.” That’s a champion’s attitude.

The entire weekend saw 192 people cited for various reasons. Citations included five for disorderly conduct, 56 for minor in possession of alcohol, two for nuisance party-attending, nine for nuisance party-hosting, 107 for open intoxicants, one for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, two for possession of drugs, seven for resisting and obstructing, one for retail fraud and two warrant arrests.

Don’t like how that retail fraud citation was thrown in there (that’s apparently what they call shoplifting in Michigan). It’s ruining all the party vibes. Everybody’s living it up in Mt. Pleasant and then you have Splooge McGee out there trying to pocket a few Slim Jims from the mini mart in the midst of all the commotion. Get a job, you philistine peasant.

I think it’s safe to say Central Michigan can’t wait to do it all again next year.

192 citations and arrests? Those numbers are minuscule compared to most other colleges’ welcome weeks.
