60 Percent Of Freshmen Say They’re Not “Emotionally Ready” For College
The Harris Poll for The JED Foundation, Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, and The Jordan Porco Foundation (that’s a mouthful) conducted a survey and found that the majority of new college students are not emotionally ready for the rigorous, overwhelming, stressful lifestyle that is freshman year. 1,500 freshmen participated in “The First Year College Experience” study, and sixty percent admitted that they were emotionally unprepared.
From NBC News:
Emotional preparedness was a major factor in determining whether a student had a successful freshman year or not. The survey of over 1,500 first-year college students showed that those who felt less emotionally prepared for college when compared to their peers had lower GPAs and were four times more likely (22 percent versus 5 percent) to describe their first year experience as “terrible/poor.”
Over half of all freshmen in the survey said they were having a difficult time making new friends and struggling to feel as though they belonged.
If only there were student organizations where it was easy to find and befriend likeminded individuals who share the same ideologies and principles as yourself. Groups that not only encourage scholarship, but are actually statistically proven to have higher GPAs. Unfortunately, those groups apparently don’t exist. You’re just going to have to be a warrior and take on those 12 gen ed credit hours alone..

11 years ago at 3:44 pmMaybe if highschool was remotely challenging, people would be more prepared?
11 years ago at 4:24 pmCan’t leave all the stupid poors behind without a high school education. They wouldn’t have the opportunity to be blue collar with at least a high school diploma.

11 years ago at 4:52 pmI would trade my house, my job, and my fiancé for a chance to be a freshman again, even including my pledge semester. Should take my bitching over to PGP.
