***UPDATE***

The guys are officially out as IFC leaders after last night’s meeting. The VP sent out this letter:

Big win for Greeks at USC.

*** END UPDATE***

Two weeks ago, IFC President, Tim Bryson, and Vice President, Jonathan Withrow, halted rush for 13 fraternities at the University of South Carolina due to alcohol violations. Chapter presidents are now fighting back over what they see as an unfair and unacceptable use of power. The chapter presidents are recommending that the two be dismissed from their positions entirely.

From The Daily Gamecock:

Harris R. Courson, Fraternity Council Vice President of Programming, was contacted by four fraternity chapter presidents who are officially petitioning for the removal of Bryson and Withrow, saying that the two “have not lived up to the standards of [their] position.” Courson then passed on that information to Bryson and Withrow, omitting the petitioners’ names.

Bryson and Withrow are both shocked that this is happening to them considering they honestly believe they did the right thing by halting rush for the 13 fraternities. Withrow apparently believes this is just the fraternities being vindictive towards them as a result of their being punished.

A hearing will take place tonight, and an impeachment vote could be held next week where 18 chapters will need to vote in favor for the two to be removed.

The University of South Carolina existed for 49 years before California even became a state and 79 years before “USC” was founded.

They are already trying to spin this into the fraternities being butthurt. There are deep rooted issues here and they definitely need to be addressed. Holt will come up with a way to boot a couple off campus for this, guaranteed.

If this doesn’t get the Lifetime Achievement in Comments Award, I don’t know what will.

He deserves to stay. College is a place to learn, not to drink alcohol and party.

I just wanted to say that I thought your username and comment were genuinely funny. Just do as TKEs do and ignore the vast, unending hate for you and your organization of goobers. I appreciate this joke and really don’t give a shit if no one else does. If I’m wrong and this is not a joke, which is unlikely since I am right 98% of the time and I doubt this is one of the 3% of the time I’m wrong, then fuck off, man. Without alcohol I would be alone and sad and miserable, whereas with it I occasionally bang fives, am sometimes happy, and have some friends who swear they don’t just hang out with me because I buy them drinks at the bars.

How you guys haven’t figured out that this is a troll is beyond me.

I’m just asking because why would someone want to kick their brothers off campus

The VP just resigned and blamed the fraternities for being immature, basically. He has not accepted any accountability for any of this. As far as I’m concerned, Bryson can stay, it was all Withrow. Also, we don’t need this turning into a race thing (because it’s not). Hopefully the fraternities will see that the person that should be gone is now and drop their case, but address that this is a good thing.

The president has yet to be impeached. Charges were filed but a vote is still needed

Didn’t we learn from Clinton that the process is “being impeached”, but the end result of impeachment is that the person either remains in or is removed from office? In that sense, Bryson has been impeached, but he has not been removed from office – he’s not “out” as the update suggests.

“I also believe that the move by these select presidents to impeach IFC President Tim Bryson and I is the nail in the coffin for self-governance…” pretty sure ousting elected leadership based on an overall dissent by the majority in regard to their actions is the definition of self-governance.
