College Football’s Top 25 Ranked By How Smart Their Players Are
On Tuesday, the College Football Playoff selection committee released their initial top 25 rankings and subsequently riled up the whole football world. Yesterday, the NCAA released the graduation rates for all programs. What better way to unite the two than ranking the teams based on how dumb their players are based off graduation rates? How are graduation rates calculated, you ask? Well the NCAA has their own extensive criteria for calculating them.
From the ABC 27:
They are based on the latest Graduation Success Rates, released Wednesday by the NCAA, which cover incoming freshmen classes from 2005-08 and calculates the percentage of all athletes who earned a degree within six years of entering school.
Since ABC 27 had the AP top 25, I looked up the CFP top 25 teams. Taking the NCAA’s data, here are the CFP top 25 teams ranked in reverse order based on how smart their players are:
25. Oklahoma State – 54%
24. Houston – 56%
23. Ole Miss – 60%
22. Oklahoma – 65%
21. Michigan State – 66%
20. Utah – 69%
19. LSU – 70%
18. Iowa – 71%
17. Michigan – 72%
16. Mississippi State – 72%
15. Memphis – 72%
14. Florida State – 73%
13. Toledo – 73%
12. Texas A&M – 74%
11. Baylor – 74%
10. Florida – 78%
9. Ohio State – 82%
8. Temple – 82%
7. Clemson – 84%
6. TCU – 84%
5. Alabama – 86%
4. UCLA – 89%
3. Notre Dame – 93%
2. Northwestern – 97%
1. Stanford – 99%
How about Okie Lite coming in hot with the worst graduation rates of them all? No surprises with Stanford and Northwestern leading the way. I’m pretty sure when you are recruited to one of those schools, it’s pretty much assumed that you’re already pretty smart and will be graduating no matter what. I am a little shocked to see Florida State in the middle of the pack..

Alabama #5 confirms these rankings are baseless and bullshit.
10 years ago at 10:24 amTrue, how can Alabama be top 5? They are also missing Georgia Tech.
10 years ago at 10:25 amYeah, how could they miss unranked Georia Tech in this Top 25 CFP Ranking?
10 years ago at 10:33 amRoll Tide
10 years ago at 10:33 amIt’s based on graduation success rates, not the prestige of the school. I imagine Alabama’s a lot easier to graduate from than most schools on this list so I’m not surprised they’re top 5.
10 years ago at 10:52 amActually it either goes to show you the lengths that the Alabama athletic department goes to make players academically eligible or it proves how easy Alabama is
10 years ago at 11:04 amThey are spending too much time teachin in the skools. Their focus should be football
10 years ago at 10:25 amI’d love to understand how the fuck Alabama is more intelligent than Clemson..
10 years ago at 10:29 am90% of them are sports business or easier degrees. Some degrees at Alabama are hard to get, most are easy.
10 years ago at 11:10 amYou’re surprised Florida State is so low? That whole town is an STD-ridden cest pool who’s education rivals that of most 8th Graders.
10 years ago at 10:31 amI expected them to be much lower.
10 years ago at 10:41 amConvenient edit to your article now.
10 years ago at 10:50 amTheir graduation rate isn’t scrong.
10 years ago at 10:45 amWhose*. Idiot.
10 years ago at 11:11 amYeah. Gainesville is a much better college town for sure
10 years ago at 11:14 amI mean yeah, those that couldn’t get in to UF attend Florida state
10 years ago at 11:18 amInto*…..
10 years ago at 12:27 pm“I didn’t come here to play school”
10 years ago at 10:35 am-Cardale Jones
Obviously Bama is high on the list because they pay kids to take athletes’ classes for them
10 years ago at 10:54 amATM!!
10 years ago at 11:05 amKind of shocked that the service academies aren’t on the list.
10 years ago at 11:14 amYou’re too dumb to insult.
10 years ago at 12:06 pmIf they all graduated, doesn’t that mean it was EASIER THAN SHIT?
10 years ago at 11:16 amI don’t think Stanford is considered an easy school by any means.
10 years ago at 3:12 pmA&M ranking 12th. TAggieM.
