Blogger Angered By New York Times Editorial Endorsing Gun Control, Shoots It Several Times With His Gun
On Friday, the New York Times, in the wake of another mass shooting in California, ran a 1A editorial about why the government needed to do something about gun control. It was the first time since 1920 an editorial was placed on the front page of the Times. Naturally, it angered a lot of people.
One person in particular, Erick Erickson, the editor-in-chief of a right-wing blog, decided he needed to make a statement about the piece. In a grand gesture that was almost as stupid as it was futile, Erickson loaded his gun and shot the newspaper multiple times. He then uploaded photos of the deceased NYT remains on Twitter.
I shot holes in the NY Times editorial – This is what I think of the New York Times edito… https://t.co/XEJpuV05Kk pic.twitter.com/brh3KrODwS

In a message accompanying the stunt, Erickson encouraged his supporters to also shoot up their newspapers. It went viral on Twitter, with a mixed bag of responses in his mentions.
@EWErickson @pareene Thanks for supporting the Times with your purchase of that day's paper.

No one wants to take your guns away, but @EWErickson should probably have his guns taken away, yeah?

.@EWErickson don't mean to start any trouble but that grouping is just ok, fam. How many yards and what gun?

FWIW, Erickson embraced the backlash:
If I had known the left would go this nuts over shooting up a newspaper, I’d have done it a lot sooner.

I don’t really give a shit about gun control one way or another, but, yeah, this guy should probably get his guns taken away — even if it’s only temporarily. When you start shooting up newspaper articles to make a point, it’s probably time to seek medical attention. And don’t feed me this “WHAT WOULD THE FOUNDING FATHERS THINK??” bullshit. Why would anyone in their right minds actually give a fuck what those guys would think about America today? They had wooden teeth and wore wigs and couldn’t figure out how to survive a common fever.
Gotta love campaign season. Political discourse is only getting stronger..

Saw a times article that said “Obama speaks to nervous Americans on Terror.”
10 years ago at 9:57 amI haven’t gotten any more nervous and I’m sure this whack job hasn’t either.
Arm yourselves folks. You could save some lives some day, but I pray to god you never have to.
Oh go fuck yourself Steve

10 years ago at 10:26 amThe writers at TFM being too big of pussies to attach their real name to a controversial article, so they throw Steve Holt under the bus.
10 years ago at 1:47 pmIt’s decisions like these that take away gun owners’ credibility
10 years ago at 10:06 amShooting inanimate objects and tweeting about it is what does it for you?
10 years ago at 10:08 amIt still goes on the list.
10 years ago at 10:09 amThe taking away constitutional rights list? Spoken just like Melissa Click, “you’ve got to get out!”
10 years ago at 10:34 amI’m sorry but this seems really childish, wasting bullets like that.
10 years ago at 10:08 amHow is target practice wasting bullets ?
10 years ago at 10:59 amMeant to come across as wasting them on the New York Times, win some you lose some.
10 years ago at 2:29 pmNot caring what the founding fathers of our country would think. TDumbassLiberalM.

10 years ago at 11:16 amI don’t give a single fuck what our founding fathers would think about absolutely anything. you’re an idiot.
10 years ago at 10:59 pmWhy the fuck should he have his guns taken away for not harming anyone with them? People just don’t like freedom.
10 years ago at 10:20 amHey libs, if the Founding Fathers didn’t think of semiautomatic glorified hunting rifles when they wrote the Second Amendment, perhaps we ought to shut down all electronic forms of communication too. Because they weren’t thinking of the Internet when they wrote the First, either.
10 years ago at 10:29 amDon’t give them any ideas. I could honestly see them using this line of logic to attack “Offensive” things on the internet at this point.
10 years ago at 10:51 amAgreed, they would be all for limiting electronic communication
10 years ago at 10:55 am*they meaning the liberals
10 years ago at 10:56 amWe understood that the first time.
10 years ago at 10:58 amI would love to see a liberals face when someone told them this in response.
