Blogger Angered By New York Times Editorial Endorsing Gun Control, Shoots It Several Times With His Gun

On Friday, the New York Times, in the wake of another mass shooting in California, ran a 1A editorial about why the government needed to do something about gun control. It was the first time since 1920 an editorial was placed on the front page of the Times. Naturally, it angered a lot of people.

One person in particular, Erick Erickson, the editor-in-chief of a right-wing blog, decided he needed to make a statement about the piece. In a grand gesture that was almost as stupid as it was futile, Erickson loaded his gun and shot the newspaper multiple times. He then uploaded photos of the deceased NYT remains on Twitter.

In a message accompanying the stunt, Erickson encouraged his supporters to also shoot up their newspapers. It went viral on Twitter, with a mixed bag of responses in his mentions.

FWIW, Erickson embraced the backlash:

I don’t really give a shit about gun control one way or another, but, yeah, this guy should probably get his guns taken away — even if it’s only temporarily. When you start shooting up newspaper articles to make a point, it’s probably time to seek medical attention. And don’t feed me this “WHAT WOULD THE FOUNDING FATHERS THINK??” bullshit. Why would anyone in their right minds actually give a fuck what those guys would think about America today? They had wooden teeth and wore wigs and couldn’t figure out how to survive a common fever.

Gotta love campaign season. Political discourse is only getting stronger.

Steve, I’ve never yet commented on one of your impossibly asinine posts with any of this “fuck you, Steve Holt, go die” nonsense but today I’m here to say,

fuck you, Steve Holt, go die.

That you thought this was a good place to air your incredibly ill-conceived argument that we shouldn’t care what our founders think because of their choice of headwear and dental care proves how little you have in common with your audience. Take this shit to gawker or mother jones if you’re just here to besmirch the brave men who risked their lives to create this country, the greatest the world has ever known.

I’m with you on that, I created it years ago in one of my least creative moments, and it pains me to continue to use it, but one must lives with the mistakes of one’s youth.

As a gun owner, I don’t think this is the voice of reason that gun-supporters are looking for.

But as a gun owner, I think that’s fucking hilarious.

He later tweeted “If I’d known shooting a newspaper would cause such outrage among liberals, I would have done it a lot sooner.”

Remember when TFM used to put out creative and original columns that were actually well written and funny? Seems like such a long time ago. Now it feels like it is filled with way too many shitty news articles written by even worse writers. The very random and rare column post these days is generally written by one of the shitty writers leading to an article better left unread. It’s to the point where I considered ripping the kid who wrote that Beta Male shit earlier today but I chose not to because at least he tried. 97% of all the content posted is based off some other website (mainly redditt), if I wanted to read what those sites had I would go there. TFM is more popular now than ever before, but overall it’s not even close to being as good as it once was. Please TFM step your game up and post some original content written by some of your better writers.

Fuck you man. Go get a job writing for Vox. Nobody can take a gun away from someone. But you can take mine only if you promise to shoot yourself
