A Finals Week Horror Story
Scott stares blankly at the screen in front of him. Displayed prominently, in front of the Instagram Babe of the Day tabs and consequent PornHub searches, is an academic slide containing words and pictures highlighting the ancient Aztec civilization of Tenochtitlan. It’s finals week, and Scott finds himself woefully unprepared. His master plan of not attending class, ignoring the notes, but skating by on exam grades alone has fallen through. Test one went well enough, thanks to a “study session” that actually turned out to be a legitimate study session with the cute girl in the front row. Although he misjudged her intentions, his grade proffered well from the unfortunate miscalculation. Exam two fell right after Logan’s birthday, with the predictable outcome of the scheduling conflict leading to an exam grade horrendous enough to balance out the success of the first.
Scott was upset that this final was taking up so much of his time. He took this Latin American studies course as an easy-write off to concentrate on his more pressing business classes, although in all fairness his schedule was on the easier side to begin with. Still, he preferred to spend his time lounging at the house and drinking away the weekends. Now that his classes had actually ended, it seemed unfair that he had to start working in earnest.
As if to add insult to injury, his usual Adderall hookup, Baker, had been inundated by requests from desperate students and had just sold his last pills to an enthusiastic Asian girl before Scott had a chance to acquire any. Without this miracle study aid, Scott felt completely hopeless and lost. How was he supposed to get through all of these slides without some help? Desperate and sober, Scott decided he had earned a few pulls of whiskey as a reward for at least opening the slide presentation.
Unfortunately for Scott, a few pulls turned into half the bottle, and half the day, before he realized what he had done. As if waking from a nightmare, the realization that he had drank away his study time hit him with the force of a Falcon Punch, and he raced upstairs to recover whatever knowledge as best he could.
Opening his laptop, he was hit with an overwhelming sense of sorrow. What was he to do? He couldn’t possibly learn all of this material in time. Gazing up at the screen in a drunken stupor, he was suddenly hit with a bolt of desperate inspiration. For displayed across the slide, in graphic detail, was the chiseled depiction of the great Aztec god Quetzalcoatl clutching the still-beating heart of an ancient sacrifice as an unwilling offering to bring the great rains that would drench their hidden temples for the coming harvest. This was just the kind of miracle that Scott needed. A sacrificial offering to the gods to conquer this final exam and skate into a passing grade.
But what offering would appease the frat gods and ensure his academic success? Beer? Liquor? Cocaine? No, too pedestrian. What Scott needed was a pledge.
Texting the group chat for an immediate lineup, he began to look over the drowsy and bloodshot eyes of the young recruits entering the basement, wondering what new hell they would be privy to endure on this night. Pacing up and down the tired track of pledges, Scott began to channel his inner Aztec warrior, submitting to an unseen guidance directing him to the ideal pledge that would appease the gods most. As if in a trance, Scott paused briefly before Chubbs, then Skittles, wavering in front of Gator as if looking for a sign. Finally, he felt an indelible tug towards the pledge named Roadkill, so named for once getting hit by a car while running to a mandatory pledge meeting. He may have escaped death once, but tonight he would be called for a higher purpose.
Pointing at Roadkill with paddle in hand, the trembling freshman stood forward, confused and afraid.
“Assume the position!” yelled Scott in a drunken trance. “May this gift of Roadkill’s bare ass appease the ancient gods in all of their wisdom and mercy, and allow me to pass this final with ease, success, and a generous curve.”
Gripping the handle with the deliberate force of a practiced swing, Scott lifted the paddle to its apex, preparing to bring it down deftly on Roadkill with all of the fervor and zeal of a freshly religious proselyte. Just at the pinnacle of tension, however, a digitized bell rang out through the dank basement, bringing the notification of an incoming text. Scott, now brought back to reality by the obtrusive distraction, glanced down at his phone.
[Baker: Hey, you still need some pills for the final, man? You know I got you. Hit me back.]
Pausing for a moment, Scott looked around him at the young pledges, the darkened paddle, and his own precious phone. “I don’t need the gods. I have Addy now. Fuck this,” he quickly surmised.
“Pledges dismissed!” rang out his thunderous final command as he raced back upstairs, leaving the pledges just as alone and confused as they were upon his arrival..
This had so much promise, but it honestly was just terrible. I’d rather read Bacon’s pathetic plugs of shows or events than shit garbage.

10 years ago at 9:50 amHave to finish this article later thanks to seeing the word pornhub
10 years ago at 9:10 amYou might have a problem.
10 years ago at 12:13 pmStarted out okay and ended with the usual disappointment. Fuck you Catalina.
10 years ago at 9:12 amCatalinaCoke has pictures of one of the Grandex guys fucking a goat. It’s the only plausible explanation.
10 years ago at 9:33 amOr Dorn with a child. It’s more likely, but you’d think they would have prepared for such an obvious eventuality.
10 years ago at 12:06 pmSounds like Jeb’s campaign
10 years ago at 3:21 pmAll this talk of addy makes me want to throw in a dip and go jack off.
10 years ago at 9:12 amThe problem with addy is that it makes it hard for me to bust so I end up beating by dick worse than what Holmes did to Rousey.
10 years ago at 9:15 amThat’s what the dip is for, relaxes the muscles while the addy allows you go into the depths of pornhub. Heard of this method from a friend.
10 years ago at 9:18 amYou sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

10 years ago at 2:48 pmGiven the useless nature of this article (and the lack of forums); I want to make something of this post. What is going on with you guys? Like is Trump actually a legitimately liked politician, or is he just a running joke? You could say it’s none of my business, or that I should be studying, but this is the only place I can get the opinions of conservative Americans with any education. Cheers
10 years ago at 9:14 amIn my experience he says a lot of things that the far right says in private but won’t say out loud. Plus his brash nature and abhorrence of the PC culture makes him a breath of fresh air compared to career politicians who always speak in such a calculated manner.
Tl;dr: Trump attracts people because he’s an asshole.
10 years ago at 9:18 amOK fair enough. I figured as much; I get the whole “America fuck yeah” mentality that you folks have (nothing wrong with pride in your own country). But do people actually have any faith in him as a world leader or more as a breath of fresh air in this PC era?
Obviously I can’t expect any of you to speak for an entire populous but I’m just trying to wrap my head around this whole thing. He’s starting to take over our news too and, although we probably care too much, is he not just a glorified racist? (And I mean racist in the actual sense, not the “you offended me” sense. I’m not referring to him speaking his mind, but instead his ideas of banning Muslims from entering the country for example)
10 years ago at 9:25 amHaving an “America fuck yeah” mentality. TFM
10 years ago at 9:27 amHaving a “Fuck kegatron” mentality. TEverybodyM
10 years ago at 12:12 pmConventional wisdom says he has no shot at winning, but honestly I have no idea if he will end up being the republican nominee. He used to be a democrat, supported Nancy Pelosi, single payer health care, etc. but people have largely ignored that so far.
Yeah he says things that can be construed as racist (Mexicans are racist, ban Muslims from coming in) but he brings up valid concerns of many Americans as well when he talks about these issues (job security, border security, national security).
I just don’t see his electability if he runs head to head with Hillary. Republicans would be better off if we could nominate Rubio.
10 years ago at 9:30 amFair point. Thanks for the response; I just see him leading the Republicans as a good way to lose to the Democrats from what I understand of your politics. But hell, we’re pretty different up here (health care, way less guns…) maybe I’m just not meant to ever fully understand some things you guys do.
I’d appreciate if anyone else chimes in, the adderal is starting to chime in, and my notes aren’t getting anymore interesting.
10 years ago at 9:41 amThe problem is that the two party system is fucked. On one hand you have the Democrats thinking that they’re smarter than the American people and that all of our problems can be solved by passing bills through congress and on the other you have the Republicans taking a “get your laws off my back” mentality (except when it comes to literally anything concerned with civil liberties). Additionally, Democrats are typically more the social justice warriors and Republicans are more fiscally minded so you basically have two groups trying to push what they consider important agendas and in the process they adopt the extreme opposite values of their competitors even if they don’t truly believe them (i.e. most conservatives I know support same sex marriage and drug decriminalization but the GOP continues to lobby against it because the Democrats are in favor of both). Where people like Trump come into play is when you have all these smug, arrogant left wingers making Republicans look like a bunch of racist, poor bashing, woman beating, rich white men and no one in the Republican Party is willing to play dirty or stick up for what we really believe. For years, any candidate deemed viable as a presidential candidate for the GOP has had to fit a certain mold that falls exactly in line with what the GOP deems the “most anti-liberal” agenda and we’ve seen it fail because that’s not how politics work in the 21st century with values growing more moderate on both sides. American conservatives (or at least me and the people I discuss politics with, but I’m from MN so we’re probably a little fucked) are getting fed up with candidates who are both A) pussies and B) non-representative of true Republican values and thus we have a lot of people turning to Trump because at least he’s not a pussy. Also, for what it’s worth I think the polls are a hoax because I don’t know any well educated people under the age of 80 who like Trump.
Tl;dr: The GOP hates liberals more than it values its own constituency. We’re pissed. A lot of misguided people are turning to Trump but won’t admit it to their friends.
10 years ago at 10:36 amI’m a pretty liberal fellow myself (within reason); but who knew the most intelligent things I’ve ever heard about American conservatism would come from TFM.
There’s a million other things that I scratch my head about from you guys, that most Canadians wonder too, I just wish there was a venue (pronounced: forum) that I could discuss these things with you gentlemen.
We could just turn CatalinaCoke articles in to forums. It’d make some use of them.
10 years ago at 10:55 am“We could just turn CatalinaCoke articles in to forums. It’d make some use of them.”
Seconded
10 years ago at 11:59 amConsidering the site, most people here have some higher education which is probably a considerable factor. There are also more liberals here than many would lead you to believe.
10 years ago at 7:18 pmI also want to explain that I’m not trying to passively aggressively bash your country. I couldn’t give two shits about what you guys do. The only time I’m there is to raid your gas stations of dip ($20/tin up here)
10 years ago at 10:57 amFirst off, glad to have you here.
Here’s my take. Trump was “created” by many conservatives’ displeasures both at the radically PC left and the passive right which has allowed the left to run wild. Trump is what Ben Shapiro (Daily Wire and former Breitbart columnist) calls “a hammer looking for a nail”, which means that he’s a candidate that has momentum whenever he’s attacking something (PC culture, the current administration’s actions (or in most cases lack thereof), terrorist attacks, media bias, etc.). This is why you see him on the attack almost daily. He resonates with so many people because people by and large are sick and tired of the left-leaning status quo that’s been forced on them. People like him because he’s a middle finger to everything they’re displeased with, no matter how far he goes. I guess a lot of people see him as an outlet to be politically “rebellious”.
The downside is that since the media almost exclusively covers Trump (he must be a ratings dream), it’s hard for the other Republican candidates to get the exposure they need and deserve.
In closing, is Trump the human embodiment of true conservative values? Speaking for myself, absolutely not. Is he entertaining? You bet. Funny? Hilarious sometimes. However, I myself am looking between Rubio and Cruz at the moment. Glad to jump in on the discussion.
-Frock Lesnar had some great points as well.
10 years ago at 11:02 amTo begin, you’ve all had great points; far more informative than the mob of Facebook comments on the pages of the Republican candidates. And it really does boil down to what I personally thought he was at first; the “political rebellion” as you put it.
I’m finding it hard to keep to the original discussion of Trump without bringing in my own personal issues with your policies on things like guns and healthcare, so I think I’ll just leave it at that. From what I understand, I’d be torn on which party to even vote for if I was American, but I’m not so who gives a shit.
Thanks for enlightening me a bit more on the whole Trump issue though, it’s surprisingly difficult to find someone who can make a more compelling argument than “you can’t fix stupid.” I’d welcome anyone who could answer a few questions on the guns and healthcare; but my 10 seconds of fame may be up so it’s all good if not.
Take care boys.
10 years ago at 12:08 pm(Fuck ISIS)
Gun issue boils down to the 2nd amendment. It was not meant to be about hunting, it was originally meant to be about having a citizenry that should be able to arm itself against an tyrannical government.
“The tree of liberty is watered with the blood of tyrants.” -Thomas Jefferson
My take on national healthcare is I don’t want to pay for someone else to have a healthcare because I work hard for my money and I believe that I deserve to reap what I sow and I hold others to that same standard. If I buy my own health insurance then anyone else you wants healthcare should pay for their own too.
10 years ago at 12:32 pmWhile I agree with you that the people who worked hard for their money deserve to spend it on their own healthcare, it’s the people who don’t have and can’t afford healthcare (who not surprisingly need it the most) that punish everyone else when they find themselves in the ER and can’t pay. Hard working people have to pick up their tab on their own dime, so why not have a system set up where everyone is covered and that doesn’t happen? That being said I’m not advocating for obamacare
10 years ago at 12:48 pmWell from my own research, a universal health care system works out to be cheaper for everyone involved. It obviously leads to an increase in taxes to fund the program, but that increase in taxes will work out to be less money than the average American out of pocket health care fees.
However, universal healthcare was a difficult thing to work out since it required essentially every province (pronounced: state) to put healthcare in the hands of the federal government in Canada. This was done before healthcare became the business that it is today, so I have no idea how that would ever happen for you guys.
I just know that I have been to the hospital countless times. My trip usually involves me handing them ID, sitting for a little while (obviously priority is given to those who need urgent care), seeing a doctor, then leaving the hospital. No insurance forms. No bills. Literally walk in, see a doctor, walk out.
10 years ago at 1:16 pmI’m curious, New_Here, how did you find TFM anyway? Are you greek?
10 years ago at 1:56 pmI play lacrosse, and I used to play with an American back in highschool. He showed me the site and I found it hilarious.
I’m not a greek, myself. The community at my school is more a few guys who went shopping on Rowdy Gentleman and just mindlessly act like a “TFM Reader”. I have nothing against Americans (other than Trump) but joining a group of Canadian guys who wear American flags around campus and everything doesn’t sit well with me.
10 years ago at 2:11 pmInteresting. I’ve never met a lacrosse player before. I’m from a strictly baseball background myself.
Sorry to hear the greek system where you’re from is like that. It varies within the US generally, but at their cores, we all generally share somewhat consistent values.
Thanks for the reply. I look forward to having some more interesting conversations with you in future posts.
10 years ago at 2:34 pmPlayed ball when I was younger, and play beer leagues now. Americans and Canadians have more in common than either will admit. Hell, some of you guys even play hockey. And both of our economies would be very different if it wasn’t for either of us.
We’re usually brothers in arms. And you guys are responsible for a lot of our military training.
Thanks for the discussion too, it’s refreshing to hear from a conservative with a brain (trust me, I know liberals can be retarded too). Take care man.
And good luck on all your finals fuckers.
Until the next CatalinaCoke post,
10 years ago at 2:52 pmCheers from up North.
Also I don’t consider myself very conservative (so NF I know) but I have got to say that this thread has shown me some of the most level headed, reasonable, and intelligent conservatives I’ve come across. Well done boys, I may have certain beliefs but I can respect a different opinion that’s well thought out and intelligent.
10 years ago at 12:51 pmThe Healthcare debate really boils down to your opinions on a welfare state so I suppose a debate there is redundant.
On guns, however, I understand it’s a right, I know people like hunting, I know they’re fun in general… I get all that. What I don’t get are when states will oppose propositions for police record checks and mental illness checks when purchasing a gun. The only argument for that, that I can come up with, would be equality rights; but I’m certain that’s a reasonable limitation on one’s freedom. Or am I missing something?
That’s my last question. After that I think it’s just going to turn into a “we’ll agree to disagree”.
10 years ago at 12:53 pmSurprisingly most individuals on both sides of the spectrum are cool with having increased checks for mental illness, criminal record, and even for the no fly list when it comes to purchasing guns. It’s the politicians who throw a bitch fit over it.
10 years ago at 1:02 pmOh I was misinformed then. Thanks for that.
10 years ago at 1:07 pmUniversal health care doesn’t work in the US like it does in Canada. Such a high percentage of our country isn’t employed that middle class Americans are having to pay double the price we were paying before the ACA.
10 years ago at 4:04 pmWe have a 7% unemployment rate whilst you guys have a 5.5% unemployment rate. We both have comparable median average salaries. But I do agree that the ACA is the wrong way to tackle the issue.
10 years ago at 4:13 pmWe have the lowest worker participation rate since the late 60’s so realistically are unemployment rate should be north of 8%.
10 years ago at 9:03 pmUnemployment rate is the statistic that the government uses to trick idiots, no offense. Unemployment rate only looks at people who lost their job within the past few years. Of our available work force (working age people) only 64% have jobs or are seeking employment. Add that to the 5% seeking employment who can’t find it and that is actually 70% of working age people who are not employed OR in college.
10 years ago at 12:37 pmFuck me I did the maths backwards. Also the labor force rate dropped its at 62% now. That means that 38% do not have jobs. Plus the 5% which is roughly 43%.
10 years ago at 12:42 pmI’m also forever running over the border to stockpile smokeless tobacco. #TotalCanadianMove
