A Lot Of Idiots Put Money On Two Schools To Win The National Championship
College football is coming in hot. Camps are heating up, and we’re only 31 days until the season starts. I’m pumped, you’re pumped, we’re all pumped. With the start of college football season also means fans are unloading their wallets on teams to win the national championship.
As of today, Ohio State is a 12/5 odds on favorite to repeat as national champions. That’s fair given what they did at the end of last season. If you were to compile your top five list of the most bet-on teams, they would probably include the usual suspects: Ohio State, Bama, Oregon, TCU, and Baylor. You’re a smart gambler; you like to actually bet on something that is likely to happen. However, it seems like America is full of idiots. Take a look at the top five from Las Vegas SuperBook:
Top 5 by money bet to win national title @LVSuperBook:
1. Ohio St (4x more $ than Bama)
2. Alabama
3. Auburn
4. Notre Dame
5. Michigan (
— David Payne Purdum (@DavidPurdum) August 1, 2015
I can understand the top 3, but 4 and 5? Come on, guys. Notre Dame is perennially that team everyone thinks is going to be good, and ends up going 8-4 or 7-5 despite having a cake schedule.
And Michigan? No offense to Jimmy H, but they are a few years from being real contenders. That’s just the cycle of having to rebuild a team.
The rule of thumb here is that sometimes it’s a good idea to make an educated bet on a team with long odds, but never bet on your team just to show loyalty. That’s why I’m taking TCU and Baylor to cover whatever the spread is against my SMU Mustangs. It could be 50 and I’m still confident they’ll beat us by 70..

9 years ago at 10:46 am8/5 on FSU having another bar incident
9 years ago at 10:05 amThere’s no odds about that. It’s going to happen
9 years ago at 10:39 amBet you’d love something to blame on black people again. Smh @ white people
9 years ago at 1:40 pmDon’t do the crime if you can’t do the time, partner.

9 years ago at 3:00 pmCongrats on race baiting! Youre the next Al Sharpcoon!
9 years ago at 4:54 pmNo one said anything about black people doing anything. All he said was that a football player would get in trouble at a bar. If anything you’re racist for assuming all players on the team are black.
9 years ago at 6:41 pmNotre dame is the most overrated athletic program in collece sports
9 years ago at 10:15 amCollege* nutsack. Lacin ’em
9 years ago at 10:16 amSteve Holt bet all his money on Notre Dame
9 years ago at 10:18 amHolt’s name is awfully close to Holtz
9 years ago at 6:19 pmI think it’s hilarious how Michigan has been terrible the last few years and Michigan State has been really good, and they still don’t get half the publicity Michigan does. Just goes to show that MSU really is little brother, and that no one gives a shit about them.
9 years ago at 10:26 amJust in case there are still some delusional Michigan fans out there, your current projected starting QB is Iowa’s former backup.
9 years ago at 10:29 amAnd our coach is the same guy who made Andrew Luck into what he is. So your point is…….?
9 years ago at 12:01 pmAndrew Luck was a stud in high school.. I’m sure he would’ve been just fine at other schools
9 years ago at 12:04 pmYeah because white people get all the playing time in high school wheras black athletes of equal quality will remain on the bench so there coach can market the “all american boy”. Shut up with your biased ass
9 years ago at 1:54 pmPut Booby in!
9 years ago at 12:57 amStop making us look bad. The only real reason one could possible be stupid enough to take this bet is throwing away $10 on the off chance that injuries decimate the entire NCAA and Michigan gets extremely lucky and you win $1000
9 years ago at 6:17 pmSince we are talking about betting there are some nice looking preseason lines in the big ten.
9 years ago at 12:53 pmI’d take Michigan St to cover a 4.5 point favorite over Michigan.
Utah to cover a 4 point favorite at home over Michigan.
UNLV to cover a 33 point underdog on the road at Michigan.
And I’ll take Minnesota to cover an 18 point underdog at home against TCU.
Lmao Michigan WILL beat your team
9 years ago at 1:40 pm…and intelligent, wise, and prudent men put all their money on Grandex making it all the way to Fortune 500?
9 years ago at 10:59 amAs chapter jew, my recommendation is to not put money on michigan. But what do i know. Im only jewish
9 years ago at 11:15 amShut up you have no idea what you’re talking about. When Harbough is putting his Harballs down your throat don’t ask me why it had to happen, just call my black ass daddy.
9 years ago at 1:41 pmwhy couldn’t you just fucking retweet the stat instead of writing an “article” for us to click on and read
9 years ago at 1:11 pmHarrison you really don’t seem to get it on a lot of your posts…people make bets based on PAYOFF not based on who they think will win. Do you think people who bet on Auburn to win the title in ’13 (after they won 3 games in 2012) really expected them to win the title? Notre Dame and Michigan have easier paths to get to the title game and huge fanbases to bet on them. I go to UGA fwiw
