PGA Golfer Aaron Baddeley Putts Better With His Lob Wedge Than You Do With Your $400 Scotty Cameron
This story is either going to make you feel very, very bad about your golf game, very, very good about Aaron Baddeley’s, both or maybe something completely different — how am I supposed to know? Maybe you’ll be attracted to Aaron Baddeley, maybe my writing will make you vomit, maybe it’ll convince you to convert to Wicca for some reason; the possibilities are endless. Let’s find out.
From Golf Digest:
After a rare three-putt by the Aussie on the 14th hole at TPC Boston (his fifth hole of Monday’s final round), Baddeley’s putter got bent when he tossed it toward his bag. That meant he wouldn’t be able to use it for the final 13 holes of the day. Since Baddeley was near the bottom of the leader board, it wouldn’t have been such a big deal during a normal week. But because he was on the bubble to advance in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the error became potentially a lot more costly.
Long considered one of the tour’s best putters (he’s fifth in strokes gained putting this season), Baddeley battled on by using his lob wedge on the greens. And incredibly, he didn’t miss a beat, one-putting seven times over the remaining 13 holes and managing to avoid anymore three-putts.
Yup, Baddeley averaged less than 1.5 putts per hole while using his lob wedge and remarkably made it through to the next round of the playoffs. For comparison purposes, I probably average a little over 1.5 putts per hole with my putter… from within six feet. If only my propensity for attracting rimjobs on the golf course could transfer over to the bedroom…
Not gonna lie, I’d respect this move a whole lot more if Baddeley was hitting flop shots on the green instead of using his lob wedge to blade the ball into the hole. Just out there taking reckless chunks out of the Bentgrass greens and dunking the ball — that’s how this should’ve gone down. But I guess this is a respectable alternative.
Here’s Baddeley’s putt very, very low lob on TPC Boston’s par 5 18th.

Nah, I’ll stick to four-putting with my overly expensive putter, thank you very much..
