Alec Baldwin Did A Phenomenal Trump Impression on Saturday Night Live

Last night was the premiere of season 42 of “Saturday Night Live.” While the show will never top its glory days, it’s still pretty culturally important and a goddamn American institution. Walking talking goddess/ “Wolf Of Wall Street” and “Suicide Squad” star Margot Robbie hosted, and Twenty One Pilots was the musical guest. Overall, the episode did not disappoint.

But the shining moment was the cold open, which parodied the recent presidential debate. The debate was an absolutely clusterfuck, so it was obvious that SNL would dig its fangs into it, and overall it was satisfying to see. Hillary Clinton was played by Kate McKinnon (from the recent Ghostbusters reboot) and Donald Trump was played by none other than Mr. Alec Baldwin. Debate moderator was played by SNL’s Weekend Update Host and veteran stand-up comic Michael Che.

Before I elaborate. Let me just say, I don’t like Donald Trump. I don’t like Hillary either, so calm the fuck down. Liberals and conservatives are both equally annoying AF, and hopefully this skit annoyed both of them.

Everyone involved in the skit killed it, but the standout was clearly Baldwin, who completely nailed his Trump impression. He replaced Darrell Hammond, an SNL veteran and master of impressions, as the show’s surrogate Trump impersonator for this season, and if last night is any indicator, he’s gonna do a kick-ass job. It wasn’t as perfect as Larry David’s Bernie Sanders impression, but then again, nothing is.

But Baldwin completely nailed everything about Trump. His voice, his mannerisms, his talking points and his resting facial expression, easily making him the most memorable part of the skit and the episode overall. The best part of any painful election season is watching SNL try to squeeze some good comedy out of it, and it looks like this year will be no exception..
