American Badass John Daly Is Opening A Chain Of 'John Daly' Themed Steakhouses

John Daly isn’t the PGA’s most accomplished golfer, but he’s definitely one of the sport’s most interesting golfers. And now, American citizens will soon be able to enjoy a nice steak while surrounded by the man, the myth, and the legend.

The 49-year-old golfer is opening a chain of John Daly-themed steakhouses over the next five years with construction on his first one in Conway, Arkansas beginning in the next month or so. That restaurant is expected to open by late spring or early summer 2016.

From The Arkansas Democrat‑Gazette:

John Daly’s, a new 5,000-square-foot restaurant featuring memorabilia and signature menu items from the PGA Tour golfer of the same name, will be on the first floor of a building at 912 Front St., project CEO Sam McFadin said.

“It’s going to resemble John’s ideas and what he envisioned as a steakhouse,” McFadin said, adding that Daly’s steak recipe and the John Daly, a drink described as “lemon sweet tea with a kick,” will be on the menu.

McFadin said the restaurant will display Daly’s accolades on rotation at times during the year. Daly will also make five appearances each year at the Conway restaurant, which is scheduled to open next year, McFadin said.

So not only will restaurant patrons potentially have the chance to eat in the presence of his 1991 PGA Championship trophy, but they could meet golf’s most interesting man up to five times a year. Suck it, Applebee’s.

Daly’s self-named restaurant was announced in October, but the project didn’t receive final approval from the city until Monday night. The Arkansas-Democrat reports Fayetteville, home of Daly’s alma mater the University of Arkansas, is also expected to see a Daly-themed restaurant in the coming years.

Unfortunately, you likely won’t be able to drink a John Daly with John Daly. Daly has reportedly been sober since 2008 when North Carolina police picked up the drunk and passed out golfer from a Winston-Salem Hooters.

He’s sworn off alcohol since, but I’d be damned if you could find him without a cigarette or cigar while on the course. A patio smoke break with the legend is a very respectable consolation.

Until Daly’s restaurant actually opens, let’s appreciate the time he drove a golf ball off a beer can:

Never change, big guy.

Greg Norman has an Australian steakhouse at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach that does really well… I’ve never eaten there because I don’t go to gimmick-y steak houses, but it’s been there for a decade or so so I assume it does alright.

Someone should go ahead and copyright the TFM Steakhouse so that never happens.
