Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston Pledges To Get Drunk For A Week If He Wins The U.S. Open

He might not be the most well-known golfer heading to the U.S. Open but he’s definitely got to be one of the coolest dudes at the party.

Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston, whom I still suspect is Sloth from ‘The Goonies’ with a full-grown beard, is quickly becoming a rising star in the sport — mostly because of his fantastic attitude.

On Wednesday, Johnston had a hell of a day with reporters. Not only did he profess his love for golf fans being degenerates, but he also pledged to get drunk for an entire week if he won the U.S. Open.

From ESPN:

Oakmont provides Johnston with his first taste of competitive golf on American soil. And he’s looking forward to getting in amongst the crowds and their infamous cries of ‘Mashed potato!’

‘We’ll have some fun,’ he says. ‘I enjoy the interaction with the fans. It’s nice when you get good feedback. It doesn’t matter who they are or where they’re from, if they talk to me while I’m playing I’ll talk back. That’s how it is. We’re all people.

One thing’s for sure, Johnston is expecting to get stick for his beard. He laughs again and plans his response carefully.

‘I was actually going to get rid of it after Spain, as it was irritating me, but after the win I got loads of comments on social media saying it’s bad for the game to have a beard. So that made me decide to keep it.’

Beard or no beard, Johnston already knows how he will celebrate if he pulls off the unlikeliest of wins at the U.S. Open.

‘Oh I’d go big,’ he laughs. ‘I’ll probably be drunk for a week.’

This man right here is the modern day version of John Daly. He’s got a great nickname, loves getting hammered and isn’t shy about what people think. He’s like me except he’s better at golf and has more money.

And the good thing about his most recent comments is that he’s got a track record to back it up. Yeah, he might legitimately get drunk for an entire week.

Remember him after the European Tour in April?

And then what did that bastard do?

A man of his word. I would salute you, sir, but you’re British. So, cheers?

You’ll definitely want to be tuned into the U.S. Open whenever ‘Beef’ comes to the tee. If it’s anything short of ‘Happy Gilmore’ shenanigans then I’ll be disappointed, but I have faith.

Let’s go Beef!

They really don’t pay very close attention to details. Odd, considering that is in their hiring requirements.
