Angels Set World Record For Largest Group In Sombreros On Cinco De Mayo And There Is No Outrage
Yesterday marked the 153rd anniversary of General Ignacio Zaragoza defeating a French army attempting to capture Puebla de Los Angeles, a small city in Central Mexico. Outnumbered 6,000 to 2,000, the Mexican troops fortified the city under the leadership of the Texas-born Zaragoza, because if you want something done right, make sure you get an American-born to do it. The day would forever be known as “Cinco De Mayo.”
Nowadays, many people use the day as an excuse to drink. I sure did. I spent the evening downing margaritas, queso, and some fajitas. But I made sure that I wasn’t on the radar of the PC police.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim decided to celebrate Cinco De Mayo by breaking a Guinness world record. They gave over 20,000 fans sombreros — unofficially 25,111 fans to be exact. That turned out to be the world record for the largest group of people in sombreros.

Sure, it’s all in good fun, and I applaud them on the dumbest world record ever, but where is the outrage? Here I am tip-toeing along in life to make sure that whatever party my fraternity throws won’t make national news and lead to an eventual suspension.
The Angels don a bunch of sombreros and are lauded with a Guinness world record certificate, but when 100 fraternity guys do it, we’re given a suspension and labeled as racists. It’s all fun and games until someone throws on a sombrero..
Nor should there be

I appreciate the history lesson. It’s more than I learned in my Spanish class all semester.
