Bill Self Is Still Incredibly Butthurt About The Whole Big 12-SEC Realignment

The best part about a good college rivalry is the legitimate hate between the two schools. It’s not like pro ball where fans bitch and complain because a player on another team called their quarterback a bad name. No. Often times, in rivalries, schools HATE each other and for good reason. For instance, the rivalry I’m most familiar with is the Mizzou-Kansas Border War. The background? Oh, ya know, just a little Civil War feud that led to the entire city of Lawrence, Kansas being burned to the goddamn ground. They still haven’t gotten over it, supposedly.

That’s where we find ourselves for this story out of AL.com, looking back on the five-year anniversary of the SEC conference realignment. When Missouri and Texas A&M moved from the Big 12 to the SEC, two rivalries were put on hold — Missouri-Kansas and Texas A&M-Texas. The source of the story is former Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin who took a job at Mizzou only to be forced out via protest. In the article, Loftin let it be known how butthurt Kansas still is over the whole thing.

More than three years since he arrived as Missouri’s chancellor, the Border War is still on indefinite hiatus. He doesn’t mince words for why it still hasn’t happened.

“The problem was a man named Bill Self who made it very clear this wasn’t going to happen,” Loftin says.

Such is the opportunity cost of realignment.”

Loftin isn’t particularly optimistic about either rivalry restarting. But after working to either maintain or restart them as a university leader at both Texas A&M and Missouri, he has perhaps the most qualified opinion on which one is more likely to happen.

“I think it’s more likely Texas will bend than Kansas,” he says,”as long as Self is involved. He has a big ego.”

Don’t hold back, Loftin. Give it to him. You’ve got him on the ropes, get another shot in.

I don’t think it comes as a huge surprise to anyone that KU basketball coach Bill Self is an incredibly large douche.

Still, it’s surprising to see Loftin, a high-up and well-regarded academic with ties to both Mizzou and A&M, fire off shots like this. This is a former vice president and chancellor of both schools getting shut down by Bill fucking Self. If this isn’t evidence of how much coaches like Self, Nick Saban, John Calipari, etc. have in their respective institutions then I don’t know what is.

Quick — someone remind Self that basketball is a dumb sport and the only thing people care about is football. Eat a dick, Bill..
