Bob Stoops Statue Rolling Through Norman On A Flatbed Trailer Is A Great Look For OU

I’m not exactly sure how the nine-foot-tall bronze statue of Nick Saban was transported from its place of origin to Tuscaloosa, but I can only assume it was hidden from plain sight, protected by a bulletproof material, and had its own presidential-style motorcade of armored vehicles and guys with handguns and snipers on the tallest buildings in a mile radius on standby. There was also a grand unveiling of the statue in front of esteemed administration and spectators. Probably a ribbon cutting ceremony and grown men weeping, too.

Bob Stoops didn’t get the same treatment, however. His ten-foot-tall statue was spotted rolling through the streets of Norman while strapped down to a flatbed trailer like a pallet of St. Augustine sod. No crate or tarp was covering it. Crate the Stoops statue for me one time, OU. Throw the man some bubble wrap. Something. Fuck.

They took this fucker out on the open road, too.

OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione wasn’t pleased with how the statue was delivered to campus. He had this to say:

“We did not receive any advance notice that the statue was to be transported to campus at this time. Moreover, we are extremely disappointed in the lack of consideration, respect and care that was shown in delivering the statue to Norman,” Castiglione said. “This was completely unnecessary. It certainly is not reflective of the way we feel about Bob or the respect we’ll show him when his extraordinary achievements are properly celebrated.”
