Sig Ep At Virginia Tech Just Lost Their Brand New $5,000,000 Home To GDIs

*****UPDATE – 10:31 CST*****

Per another tipster:

They lost their charter because they hired porn stars to strip for them using chapter funds.

Ha! Classic.

We were also emailed a formal document that’s about as long as every college textbook I never read, but after spending a couple minutes skimming through, it appears to be a detailed report of every allegation against the chapter and subsequent response from the national office from December 2008 to November 2012. I’ll start sorting through this bad boy to see what I can share, if anything at all.

The latest:

I read through the document this morning. I don’t want to air anyone’s dirty laundry, so I’ll just say that the earlier report about misconduct and mismanagement was fairly accurate. Okay, very accurate. They also treated their new mansion like a rundown spring break hotel.

___

According to multiple tipsters, the Virginia Tech chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon recently had their recognition withdrawn by their national office. Details remain minimal and unconfirmed for the time being, as this story is still fluid, and we’ll certainly update as soon as we obtain more information, but it sounds like their charter was pulled due to general misconduct and mismanagement.

Remember the amazing $5 million house that this chapter had the privilege of moving into at the beginning of the spring semester?

You know, this one:

Well, they lost it. They have to move out and they have to stay out. Commenters from this story that I posted almost a month ago state that the chapter was previously on probation, contributing to the explanation of the seemingly abrupt dismissal.

We were also sent the following screen capture. I can’t confirm where it’s from or by whom it was posted, but it helps shed some light on this breaking development, so here it is:

My response to that last paragraph: ouch, and fuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Nothing, but the fact that it’s being seized by the university to be used by GDIs still sucks.

^ Not really. Would you rather want paid ResLife staff taking care of the place for 4 years until you can get it back or a rival fraternity moving in and beating the living shit out of it every day? I’ll take the geeds all day long.

If you read further comments these geeds spill more about their Pledge-ship than much of us would allow. I mean its not like House Business would remain House Business with these clowns.

Why does it say they can join another fraternity?…never heard anything like that.

I was thinking the same thing. Unless they’re still pledging (which they’re not b/c you’re initiated as soon as you accept a bid from Sig Ep), that’s pretty much a violation of every fraternity’s policy.

Basically it means that their HQ has decided that the guys who joined this past academic year are not being punished for behaviors of brothers who had been around for awhile and one might guess caused this to happen. It means that during their HQ’s investigation, they found that the behaviors/misconduct that caused this chapter to be shut down had been occurring for some time so you could think of it as a retroactive suspension of charter.

^^ Even under BM protocol, you’re still not “initiated” per nationals until you get through the Sigma and Phi stages of the BM program, both of which combined can take a considerable amount of time. Most of these guys would still be considered pledges by any other fraternity’s standards, I’m guessing.

^ Edit: That’s my understanding of it anyway. I’m not an SPE but a good friend of mine is.

For those who are commenting about when they are initiated, SPE at VT are traditional, not BM.

Yah, they’re traditional…for now. Same thing happened at Mizzou a few years ago. House was shit, had bad grades, etc but they were good at sports and drinkin so who gives a shit, right? Well nationals came in and built a new $3.2 million house then put every member up for review and kicked almost everyone out, then forced the ones who stayed to agree to Balanced Man. So they all quit. Good for them.

My cousin at Alabama was a SPE and when they got kicked out they gave him the option to join another fraternity… really curious if anyone is allowed to explain that more.

I wouldnt care if they gave me the option or not. You never join another fratnerity. Once you accept a bid anywhere you should stick to it. You belong with that fraternity its why they gave you a bid.

^ Okay, now that’s just ridiculous. I’m personally of the opinion that dudes who quit pledging are pussies, but to say they’re “permanently bound” by a bid card is silly. They’re not permanent anything until they’ve seen my ritual.

Same thing happened to UF SigEp. Review happened, kicked out couple kids, national reviewed again and kicked out 150 kids. Went to rebuild (still killed it from what I hear) and then charter got pulled end of fall. The kids that pledged and were initiated in fall all went to Theta Chi. Although some nationals have in their bylaws this isn’t allowed, some fraternities sweep by it.

^^ I agree with Fratsman. Accepting a bid and dropping under your own will is being a pussy and I doubt any other respectable fraternity would give you a bid…but nobody is considered part of my fraternity unless they’ve been through the ritual process, not because they accepted a bid.

Ah, there was a time when Sig Eps were pretty badass. So sad to see the current trend of NF. Myself and all of us “old guys” talk about the demise of SigEp, and it’ll make a grown man cry. Sure I’m gonna get trolled pretty hard for this one.

Coming from a traditional SigEp chapter, it really is a shame to see the kind of shit that nationals pull on their own “brothers” for one reason or another. The requirements they uphold in order to maintain traditional status are ridiculous and it seems like the RD just drops in at our house twice a month to catch someone breaking their asinine rules. I think some geed took control and just wants it to be Sigma Phi Everyone. Fuck that.

Heard form our national Housing Manager that these kids showed up to their house opening all in shorts and blazers. Doesn’t sound like they would even know what to do with a house like that anyways. Us being a traditional chapter with pledgeship, our RD still gave us a ridiculous amount of attention and help. Really depends on the men running the chapter, and they had nothing going for them.

No one at Tech will be sad to see them go… these rumors have been around for the past semester or so at least. I guess nationals finally pulled the trigger
