Why Is Brian Cushing Blocking So Many People On Twitter?

This morning, I began my routine by rolling over and catching up on my Twitter timeline, when I saw a conversation going down between several noted Houston sports guys and radio personalities regarding Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing.

One of the aforementioned Houston sports guys noticed, totally at random, that Mr. Cushing had blocked him on Twitter for apparently no reason. He found this to be extremely odd, and pointed it out to his followers, which caused a snowball effect.

Keep in mind, when someone blocks you on Twitter, you’re not notified. Unless you visit that person’s profile page, you’ll never know.

Well, as it turns out, Brian Cushing has blocked a shit ton of people on Twitter, many of whom claim they’ve never tweeted at, or even about, Cushing.

After chuckling about this mildly funny situation for multiple seconds, I thought, Oh shit — what if I’m blocked by Brian?

Et me, Cush?

I’m a passionate Houston sports fan, so yeah, I immediately acknowledged that there was an off-chance I threatened to murder Cushing’s grandmother or something similar on Twitter in a moment of emotional distress during one of the many excruciatingly painful and embarrassing Texans games over the years. Because of this acknowledgement, I decided to search all mentions I’ve ever made of Brian to see if there was something that would merit blockage.

Not only have I never threatened Cushing’s grandmother (unless I deleted the tweet when under the influence of adult beverages, which is a distinct possibility), but all of my tweets including his name are overwhelmingly positive in my opinion. My only theory is that maybe Cush saw that last tweet in the middle of a cycle and blocked me in a fit of roid rage, but even in that scenario he’d have to be searching for mentions of his name on Twitter, which is a total psycho move, and manually blocking those people.

It’s also possible he’s using Hootsuite, or a similar platform, has a column set to show all mentions of “Brian Cushing,” and goes through blocking everyone that uses his name in vain. Still, that would be a really fucking weird thing for a professional athlete to do. This is a guy that has been known to take his helmet off mid-game and headbutt other players that are still wearing their helmets, causing him to bleed profusely from the face. Being overly sensitive about what people say about him on social media doesn’t really mesh with his bad boy persona.

Then again, maybe he searches all mentions of “Texans” or “Houston Texans” and blocks everyone that says negative things about the team, which would most definitely include me. I have said many idiotic, hateful, mean-spirited and even spiteful things about the Texans over the years. (Full disclosure, I campaigned way too hard for them to draft Johnny Manziel, and for that I am ashamed.)
