Budweiser Introduces The Bow Tie Beer Can
This formal season (anytime after May 6th), true gentlemen across the nation will be able to procure some beer cans that match their attire. In an announcement today, the innovative people at Anheuser-Busch unveiled Budweiser’s new “bow tie” can — a truly classy take on the iconic American brew.
I’ve got to say, I like it. I like it a lot. It looks easier to hold, easier to chug, easier to throw, easier to spike, and the angles on this thing will for sure breed some new tactics in the shotgun game. Anheuser-Busch executives agree.
Per Wall Street Journal:
“This can is incomparable, like nothing you’ve ever seen before,” said Pat McGauley, vice president of innovation for Anheuser-Busch. “The world’s most iconic beer brand deserves the world’s most unique and innovative can. I think we have it here.”
I like Pat’s take on this. The can really is incomparable. I mean, I’ve travelled to a number of places, foreign and domestic, and drank a fuck ton of beer, again, foreign and domestic, but I’ve never come across anything like this. Innovation at its finest.
And the best part of these new seemingly perfect power hour sized 8-packs? Despite being the world’s most iconic beer brand, Budweiser is only releasing this can for the lucky people of…you guessed it, America. It’s just another notch in ole win column for the red, white and blue. First they blessed us with the Ameri-can, and now this!? Man, I love Budweiser.
The proprietary can, in development since 2010, will be available only in the United States and in an 8-pack and will not replace the traditional Budweiser can.
To make the new can possible, Anheuser-Busch engineers needed to solve a number of technical challenges, and major equipment investments were required at Budweiser’s can-making facility in Newburgh, N.Y. Significant capital investments also were required to upgrade packaging lines at the Budweiser breweries in Los Angeles and Williamsburg, Va., the first breweries with capability to package this unique can innovation.
Like most of you, I will definitely be consulting the manager at my local distributor to make sure that he’s getting his shipments from the Williamsburg brewery.
It seems Anheuser-Busch has manufactured quite the preliminary run on the new Bud Heavy product, so it sounds like there’s some work to be done on these bad boys.
An initial run of more than 10 million bow tie cans were produced in Newburgh (NY) through March 31 for the Spring introduction. An additional 8 million cans are scheduled to be produced this month.
Shouldn’t be a problem, right boys? If you’re really eager to get your hands on the new bow ties for formal, well Budweiser’s naturally got you covered there, too.
Consumers interested in locating where they can purchase the special 8-pack can call 1-800-dial-Bud.
Don’t complain about the 11.3 oz. thing either. They come in 8-packs to compensate.

Why would anyone be pumped about less beer? Coming in 8-packs allows AB to sell them at the 12 oz price without the consumer doing the math to realize they’re getting ripped off. Plus, if you hand the can to your average person, their first thought isn’t, “bow tie can”. It’s a sorry gimmick and a very unamerican thing to do coming from a company that screams America. Shame on you AB, you commies.

13 years ago at 8:40 pmYes, I am aware of the business plan. That wasn’t my point.
13 years ago at 5:17 am11.3 x 8 = 90.4

Learn to do math fucktard.
^I didn’t say sell the 8-pack at the 6-pack price did I? I said the 8-pack allows them create a completely new price which will disguise the fact you get less beer per ounce for the same cost. Nothing else comes in an 8-pack so you cant even compare it to other beer prices on the shelf. Lets say a Budweiser 12oz 6-pack costs 4.99, they aren’t going to create a 6 pack of 11.3 oz cans for 4.99 because people would rather take the .7 oz more for the same price. I can guarantee you the 8-pack of bow tie cans will cost equal or more than the standard cans per ounce. Obviously they are cutting costs but its kind of pathetic to tell consumers how sweet these flashy bow tie cans are when they hardly look like bow ties and they just want to give you less product for the same price.
13 years ago at 7:24 pmI blame the liberals for this.
13 years ago at 9:46 pmpiss poor effort on this one, Budweiser.
13 years ago at 10:39 pmGood marketing scheme but a sincere fuck you for the .7 oz of beer that i dont get to drink.
13 years ago at 3:42 amEveryone bitching about the .7oz less… total volume of the pack is 18.4oz MORE than a standard 6-pack.
More drunk + more cans for pledges to clean up = win/win
13 years ago at 7:08 amScrew it. I am going to start making my own beer.
