Chipper Goes Lou Brown in NL Clubhouse
Chipper Jones, the people’s champion, was given the honor of representing the National League in the 2012 All-Star Game in his final season as a big league ball player. Chipper’s All-Star appearance is the 8th of his illustrious career. It wasn’t just an honorable invite either; he earned it with a great first half of the season. In a show of respect for the veteran and future Hall-of-Famer, Chipper was given the floor to deliver a pre-game speech to the younger generation of the game’s greatest ball players. He did, and he killed it. It was about leaving the game a winner, identifying with the younger guys in the clubhouse and sending them a message, but it was also about finishing the final chapter in his own career with a purpose.
The best part of the speech, in my opinion, was Chipper tapping into a little Lou Brown with a bit about winning streaks.
“What did Lou Brown say in Major League? We won two. Win three, and that’s a winning streak.”
Before last night’s game, the National League won the last two All-Star games after a damn near impossible winless streak of 13 games. The National League won last night 8-0. They are now on a winning streak, and Chipper is going out a winner.
Here’s the original:
Lou would be proud.

12 years ago at 10:17 amI’ve been a loyal Rays fan my entire life, but Chipper has and always will be one of my favorites to play the game.
12 years ago at 7:15 amGreinke should’ve been invited instead of a third 3B. There, I said it.
12 years ago at 10:40 amFuck you. There, I said it.

12 years ago at 11:31 amHis teeth have always been a few shades too yellow, haven’t they? Like too much Gatorade and not enough Scope. Hell of a ballplayer though.
12 years ago at 12:02 pmIt is from dipping you moron.
12 years ago at 1:20 pmThe National League All Stars hazing the first-timer Bryan Lahair and making him sit on the ground. TFM.
12 years ago at 1:35 pmWhy the hell has there been an American Icons article about Scott Dickhead and not Chipper? Dammit, Dorn.
12 years ago at 2:08 pmChipper will be a head coach within the decade.
12 years ago at 2:32 pmI’d rather see him as a hitting coach first. Maybe the smartest hitter I’ve ever watched. Dream scenario would be Chipper as hitting coach, Maddux or Glavine as pitching coach, and literally anyone or anything, even a satchel full of used condoms, as manager for the Braves instead of Fredi.
12 years ago at 4:34 pmAt least the condoms wouldn’t overuse our bullpen
12 years ago at 9:31 pmIf you don’t like Chipper Jones, you can go fuck yourself.
