Why pay for college only to enlist? Why not just enlist and get a four year head start?

Entering the service as a Corporal, for one, having more time to complete your studies instead of having to complete them between range time, regular duties, and time in the field, and the ability to look for civilian jobs before signing the contract.

I got that but if you enlist, if your good, within 4 years you are gonna be a sgt. Having a degree isn’t going to help with anything

Part of what makes the U.S. Army the greatest in the world is the superior human capital of our service members. The better educated our NCO and enlisted corps is, the more effective we are at winning.

I take my education seriously and don’t mean to belittle it, but if you’ve ever been in a combat role you should know that civilian education and combat effectiveness are not all that closely related. I’ve met great soldiers that have degrees and great soldiers that have GEDs, and I’ve met shitbags in each category as well.

They now offer the Post 9/11 GI Bill which can be used for 36 months of graduate school. So, enlisting after college, or being commissioned can pay for law school or any other grad degree.
