Dad Asks Redditors To Name Unborn Child, Results Are Exactly What You’d Expect

If you’re familiar with Reddit, you know that when someone poses a ridiculous topic or question, he or she is bound to encounter some audacious answers. More than 34 million people traffic the site each month, and some of the select users who reside in the deepest, darkest, most outlandish depths of the Internet always seem to be the ones who respond to these absurd Reddit posts.

Unfortunately–and I’m still not sure why, although I wouldn’t rule out a bet with a friend–a man from British Columbia decided to put the task of naming his unborn daughter at mercy of the Redditors.

Soon-to-be father Stephen McLaughlin threw the question out to the Internet commenters, and he also set up the website namemydaughter.com. How in the hell he got his wife to agree to this ploy, I have not the slightest clue. Apparently, though, she already has two children from a previous marriage–so maybe that means there was less at stake?

As you can imagine, the responses were ridiculous. Here’s a screen grab of some of the frontrunners from earlier in the voting period.

Would you really expect anything less from some of the crazies who scour the Internet? As you can see, some of the most creative proposed first and middle name combinations included Slathagor Salad, Leslie Doge, Laquisha Le-Dash-A, and Megatron Titanium.

All were pretty badass and creative, but with more than 150,000 votes, “Cthuhlu All-Spark” took the cake.

If you’re anything like me, this was your reaction:

I’ll try to clarify for those who don’t get the references. The All-Spark is a pivotal object in the “Transformers” chronicles, and Cthuhlu is a fictional beast who originally appeared in a 1928 magazine publication, courtesy of writer H.P. Lovecraft.

A likely explanation as to why Redditors voted more than 150,000 times for the mythical creature to win is because of Cthuhlu’s well-known, crime fighting resurgence in several episodes of “South Park.”

As this video shows, he’s a revered character.

Unfortunately, the name didn’t resonate completely with Kathryn, McLaughlin’s wife. She must have a shitty sense humor.

As a compromise, the couple settled on Amelia Savannah Joy McLaughlin, using other user-submitted names. The baby was delivered happy and healthy on April 7.

From McLaughlin’s point of view, I suppose this cool social experiment was worth a try, but really–what the hell did you expect from the Internet?!

Pretty sure it will be hard to beat baby “Chalupa Batman” or some Cubans who have named their daughters “Usnavy”
