Two spring breakers at Daytona Beach stole a jet ski from a lifeguard and went on a joyride, leading the authorities on a shoreline chase. The duo then beached the vessel and attempted to escape on foot before being arrested.

Reportedly, the lifeguard was having mechanical issues and had beached the jet ski. While his back was turned, the spring breakers hopped on the watercraft and took off.

From News 13:

Two spring breakers were arrested Friday after they stole a Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Jet Ski and went around on a joy ride before beaching the personal watercraft and trying to run from authorities.

Capt. Tammy Marris, of Volusia County Beach Safety, said the incident happened just before 5 p.m.

The agency’s Jet Ski attendant was having some mechanical issues and beached the personal watercraft along the sand in Daytona Beach.

Minutes later, two spring breakers hopped on the Jet Ski and proceeded to ride it south around the Daytona Beach Boardwalk and Pier.

Officers were able to follow the duo on land along the shoreline. The two then beached the ski south of the pier and tried to run away from the area, Marris said.

Officers were able to secure the two, who have been identified as James D. Duffey, 22, and Andrew A. Gentry, 21, both of Virginia.

Marris said they will be charged with grand theft of a vessel.

While the report says they’re from Virginia, there’s still no way to be sure what college they attend. But we did receive these Snapchats of the incident from user droppingdimes. The title of the submission reads “cats still by 90,” so it’s safe to assume the students in question come from the University of Kentucky.

There are lots of things taken at any spring break location. Shoes. Phones. Wallets. Virginities. But a lifeguard jet ski is one for the annals of spring break lore. I can see Hasselhoff now. White nose. Short trunks. Running frantically down the beach, waving his arms and blowing his whistle at two drunk kids who are laughing their asses off as they ride out of sight.

Cats by 90.

Doubt any of these haters would have the balls to pull this. Then again, good luck pulling a decent job with this on your record
