Did Duke Students Chant “How’s Your Grandma?” At An NC State Player Whose Grandma Just Died?

Were the Cameron Crazies acting like Cameron Assholes last night during the Duke-NC State game? Well, it depends on who you ask.

Tyler Lewis of NC State lost his grandmother on Friday night at the age of 83. Purportedly, they were close. So close that he “spoke with her on the phone every day while she was in the hospital.” So when Lewis stepped to the foul line in the second half last night down by 17 points to the superior Blue Devils, the last thing he probably expected were chants of “How’s your grandma?” to rain down on him from the Duke student section, the self-acclaimed greatest fans in college basketball, but that’s allegedly how it went down.

However, the Cameron Crazies have a defense, and I have to agree it sorta makes sense. They are claiming the chant was actually in reference to Lewis’ stature, not his grandmother, and that they didn’t even say anything about her at all.

Of course, you would have to have been at the game […] to clearly understand the chant as “Past your bedtime,” which the Crazies did chant at Lewis after the Duke line monitors wrote on their whiteboard, “It’s past Tyler Lewis’ bedtime,” and were shown on the scoreboard video screens.

Get it? The kid looks like he’s about eleven years old. So, listen for yourself — is it “How’s your grandma?” Or is it “Past your bedtime”?

That dude is pretty small, but I also like believing that the Duke students are assholes, and hell, they’re not exactly known for exercising proper judgement.
