Ernie Els Opened A 6 Hour Tab After His Ace At The Travelers Championship

Ernie Els

Ernie Els wasn’t shooting the round of his life by the time he made it to the 16th at the Travelers Championship. In fact, he was a stroke over as he approached the Par 3. Unswayed by something as simple as math, everyone’s favorite South African did what he had done nine times throughout the course of his professional career. He went ahead and aced it.

Here’s footage of his tenth career hole-in-one.

Ten is a pretty monumental number, so Ernie decided to celebrate in style. Instead of having all the fun to himself, The Big Easy made the call to give the caddies some love. It came in the form of a six-hour open tab, courtesy of Els.

That’s about as good of a way to celebrate as any. Caddies bust their asses every weekend, so it’s always a good move to keep them happy. While it’s uncertain whether or not they’ll need any more libation after those six hours, it’s still a pretty boss move to give them the old “you’re on your own” spiel. He’s a funny guy, that Ernie.

Despite his well-documented reputation as a guy you don’t want to throw down with, Els has always been about giving back. He’s won enough charitable awards to fill a trophy case, typically for causes like autism research and education. Although caddy sobriety isn’t quite as heavy an issue, it’s still good to see guys who are kicking ass at life throw some respect to the folks that help make them great. Crack a cold one for the wingmen tonight. Without them, we’d just be good instead of great.
