Family Of Kid Who Starved Himself Until Mizzou President “Announced White Privilege” Is Worth $20 Mill
Allow me to preface this by saying that just because someone is wealthy – or in this case, EXTREMELY wealthy – it does not mean he or she cannot be a victim of racism.
But isolated acts of racism in no way mean that the entire Missouri system refuses to allow African Americans equal opportunity. That is the biggest fallacy with the demands made by Concerned Students 1-9-5-0.
Here’s the full list, which demands the removal of University President Tim Wolfe, a spoken public apology and acknowledgement of white male privilege from Wolfe, an increase in black faculty and staff to 10 percent by the 2017-2018 school year, and several other broad requests for “inclusionary” programs.

There are individual racists at Mizzou. No doubt. And it’s terrible that some students had to endure racial harassment because of those individuals.
But the problem with these demands are that they imply the very structure of the university is conspiring against them. It’s not. Like the racist cop who murders an unarmed black man, the incidents of racism at Mizzou are indicative of a problem with individual people, not the university or those in charge of it.
Jonathan Butler, the poster boy of Concerned Students 1-9-5-0 who vowed to starve himself until those demands were met, is proof of this fact.
Butler comes from a family worth $20 million.
That’s right. Butler, the person who demanded that Wolfe step down from his position and admit his white privilege, is the son of railroad tycoon Eric L. Butler, who makes $8.4 million annually (Wolfe makes about $300,000 annually).
From St. Louis Post Dispatch:
He is a member of a prominent Omaha family. The newspaper says that Butler’s father is Eric L. Butler, executive vice president for sales and marketing for the Union Pacific Railroad. His 2014 compensation was $8.4 million, according to regulatory filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Butler, you can’t claim to be the victim of a system’s privilege when you are more privileged than the entire system. You are a living, breathing example that the university’s systemic racism (not the individual acts of racism) are non-existent.
You used childish, bullying tactics to force Wolfe into exile. You claimed you never wanted to be the center of attention as you spoke to a morning news anchor about your self-inflicted “struggle,” front and center, surrounded by supporters.
Worst of all, the entire university is now in danger – both white and black students have been targeted by online threats – because you wanted to play Ghandi with your friends..

10 years ago at 8:56 pmThis site is clearly packed with white condescending bigots but I digress, you all enjoy your jolly, happy go lucky yachts and fraternities. As several articles on this site states most of you experiences. After college your daddies will talk to their Fortune 500 bosses to give you a full-time position in which you only majored in creative writing or become an Econ major with a 2.5 GPA. You butt hurt wasps cringe at a shift in societal norms.
10 years ago at 9:36 pmConsidering the net worth of this Butler kid’s father, I honestly can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or if stating that we all have rich “daddies” who will get us cushy jobs after graduation is really your best effort at putting us waspy frat boys in our place. Thanks for giving me a good chuckle, regardless.
10 years ago at 10:52 pmNo, Twas more of a reality check. Seems like my assessment is correct about your daddies fortunate network. Ignorance plagued this comment section and they downplayed the point as to why he started this demonstration by claiming he has “financial privilege.” And I’m sure many share the same sentiments as the people in this thread. It’s just easy to think it doesn’t exist when you haven’t experienced what it’s like to be a minority in this country.
10 years ago at 11:13 pmI don’t know why I’m giving you the attention, but I’ll bite. Number one, you’re incorrect about my “fortune network.” My family’s not wealthy, our net worth is not even sniffing anywhere near Butler’s. Second, I know enough to discern between racial privilege and privilege that stems from wealth and class (though I can’t speak for everyone). Yes, Butler has probably experienced racial prejudice while simultaneously living with privilege from his wealth. I think it speaks volumes about what it’s like to be black in America that such a man privileged in so many ways still feels victimized because of he color of his skin. I just think that his plight comes across as disingenuous to a lot of people because he has lived a life that 99% of the black population has never experienced (and any other race for that matter).
10 years ago at 12:02 pmYou’re racist and classist as fuck because we’re not all white here (I’m half minority) and the majority of us are middle class (including me). So fuck you, you stereotyping cunt
10 years ago at 6:33 amWtf is half minority? Dickhead
