SEC Postpones Florida-LSU Game Due To Hurricane Matthew And It Could End Up Screwing Both Teams

LSU tried to make the game happen. They offered up their stadium, secured hotels in Baton Rouge, and even offered an LSU plane for the Florida Gators to get there. However, Florida officials decided on Wednesday to say the game would go on as scheduled. Now, the SEC has decided the game isn’t going to be played in Gainesville or anywhere else this weekend — it is officially being postponed.

From SEC Sports:

“We had a very productive phone call today with a great spirit of cooperation between the universities’ presidents and athletics directors and it became clear that the University of Florida could neither host nor travel to a game this weekend considering the circumstances,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “The developments of the hurricane in the last 24 hours, the projected magnitude of its impact and the unknown aftermath of this storm have resulted in this decision to seek another date to play the LSU-Florida game. We have to be sensitive to the possible imminent disruption to the state of Florida and in particular the Gainesville and surrounding area.”

Now here’s the tricky part. Since they won’t be playing this weekend, the statement says they will try to play this game later on in the season if possible. The teams do not have a common off weekend for the rest of the season. However, both teams play FCS opponents on November 19th, so they could just cancel those games to get together.

What happens if the teams can’t agree? Well, the game wouldn’t be made under this current situation. Both teams sit at 2-1 in SEC play. If both of them were to win out and finish SEC play at 6-1, they would not have a better winning percentage than a 7-1 team, even if they’d beaten that squad, so the 7-1 team would get the nod to go to Atlanta to play for the SEC championship. I’m rooting for anarchy, and for this to happen.

This is the best thing that could’ve happened to Florida, and totally fucks Ed Orgeron. Florida is bad, lucky for them the SEC East is horrible. Losing a game against an extremely talented LSU, which is a divisional crossover game cannot be a bad thing for the Gators. Orgeron on the other hand is trying to win his way to the full time gig, and a road win against a bad UF team (that is still ranked and won the SEC East last year) would be immensely helpful.

And by “losing a game” I mean the game not being played. Huge win for the Gators here, and I’m guessing their administration will not push hard for a makeup date

You’re wrong. This game would help solidify us in our ap ranking and propel us towards a possible upset of Tennessee in winning the east. Also the administration both tried to change the time to 7:30 and then reschedule the event in November but lsu declined both times, so there’s that.

That’s bull shit. In LSUs presser they said they had fully planned on being there Saturday. When Florida decided they were going to cancel because of the storm LSU offered them the world. Florida is just a bunch of pussies that don’t want to play a full schedule to get to Atlanta.

It’s not about that to be honest. We have had our last two meetings in Death Valley. It’s about money and what’s fair at this point. The swamp and Death Valley are two highly rated tough stadiums and playing 3 contests in a row at Death Valley would just be stupid.

Also there’s no fucking way we’re scared of an interim and their limp legged RB.

They offered to pay for everything for them to stay and get there. How the fuck is this about money? They even offered to play Sunday or Monday and Florida dodged just like a dead beat dad and child support.
