FSU Goes Full Ban On Fraternities And Sororities Following Pledge’s Death

Over the weekend, Andrew Coffey, who was pledging Pi Kappa Phi at Florida State University, died following a house party. A brother of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity was later charged with selling cocaine, although there was no announcement as to if the two events are linked. A very sad event and one that continues to stain the reputation of Greek life not just at FSU, but nationwide.

The president of FSU, John Thrasher, decided to take drastic measures.

From Tallahassee Democrat:

Florida State University President John Thrasher has indefinitely suspended all fraternities and sororities effective immediately…“For this suspension to end, there will need to be a new normal for Greek life at the university,” Thrasher said in his statement. “There must be a new culture, and our students must be full participants in creating it.”

Something tragic happens and all eyes look at Thrasher to take action. So he takes the maximum amount of action possible, given his power. He didn’t ban the fraternity itself, but all of Greek life. A statement move.

If you read between the lines, all may not be lost for Greek life.

“All of our student organizations – Greek organizations and the other recognized student organizations on campus – must step up. They will have to participate in the solution,” Thrasher said.

So it at least seems the school will give the greater majority of Greek life the chance not to fuck up again. Although it’ll be hard for them to create a “better Greek life culture” if they’re not allowed to meet or do anything at all.

Guy from phi delt got caught in a raid from DEA at FSU. Theyre raiding all greek houses atm and thrashers showing no mercy. Apparently a couple dorms have been searched by dogs as well. I know this as i go to florida state. Sad for Andrew. Pi kapp was a pretty well regarded fraternity here. Was going to rush it next semester. RIP.

Also phi delt is a nationally dry fraternity, does that apply to coke too or just alcohol

It applies to all drugs, booze, and tobacco. Phi Delt as a fraternity exists and operates completely through loopholes and its bullshit. Worst nationals in the greek system today

Are you sincerely curious? Because the answer should be obvious.

But with the commenters of this site the line between acting stupid and being stupid blurs more and more.

If college students weren’t such damn idiots then maybe the whole system would function for everyone and we could all have a moderately good time. But no, you all have to go super hard in the paint until somebody bites the dust and ruins it for everyone.
