Former President George W. Bush hit the bike trails with wounded warriors on Wednesday to celebrate his 70th birthday. His daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, snapped this photo of the 43rd president as he led the pack over a hill marked with Old Glory.

On his own Instagram account, Dubya posed for a photo with wounded veteran Chris Self.

More footage of him leading the troops:

Damn, Forty-three. Those rocks would be brutal on a twenty-something’s knees. Major props for tackling that terrain at 70.

Bush has always been known for his personal relationship with the men and women who served our country, and leading them on mountain bike rides has become an annual tradition. The guy just has a genuine love for our troops. It’s great to see he’s still crushing it out there, inspiring — and being inspired — by the people who sacrificed so much for our nation.

He might not have always made the perfect moves but dammit he loved this country so much as president.

    Fuck Obama and Clinton.

So true. If I disagree with a president but think they have the right intentions I can at least try to respect them. Pretty rare with the Dems (I guess maybe Carter?). I disagree with a lot of Bush policy but I have no doubt he is a patriotic, good man

Carter is the perfect example of ‘great guy, bad president’. He wasn’t a strong leader and made mistakes but his after presidency has been really commendable, dude straight up wiped out a disease.

Bullhorn speech after 9/11 is still the best speech I’ve ever heard. Never forget

This is gonna be unpopular but realistically Bush being a moron is a part of the reason there are so many wounded warriors in the US not to say Obama was better

You can thank the agencies that report to him for fucking up then since they gathered intelligence and he acted on it. Sadam didn’t help either by banning inspectors from his country. One of those if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck scenarios.

if you’re gonna pretend like this wasn’t bush trying to avenge daddy’s failed oil war you’re wrong. I’m as conservative as the next guy but it’s kind of hard to laud someone for hanging out with wounded warriors when he bungled a war harder than nam

I suggest reading decision points by Bush. It explains his decision to invade Iraq because they were harboring and even paying Sunni terrorists. Even though now everyone says obviously he didn’t have WMD Saddam acted in a way that said other wise since he wouldn’t even allow weapons inspectors into the country and he had used them in the past

Saddam also used chemical weapons on the Kurds. Quite possibly some of the same weapons Assad ended up using in Syria. They saw us coming and shipped them across the border. Not saying there weren’t multiple motivations, but they did technically have WMDs at some point

It’s easy to say Bush fucked up in the Middle East in hindsight, but terrorist from the Middle East had just killed over three thousand Americans and more or less caused a recession. If you were a sitting president given the info you were, no matter the party affiliation, you would have made similar if not the same decisions.

The difference between Bush and the Clintons is that Bush doesn’t see these men and women as disposal human beings. While that women deliberately allowed Americans to die in Benghazi, this man spends his day of birth alongside with those who loves and respects more than anything in the world.

He did what he thought he had to do and has basically dedicated his life to those affected by the consequences of that decision. You can debate his decision to begin the war, but not his patriotism and devotion to our troops and their families.
