Georgia Tech Alum’s Dying Wish Was To See Head Football Coach Paul Johnson Fired
Robley Henson Tatum was an Atlanta native, a World War II veteran (who served in the Battle of the Bulge), and a devoted husband and father. Tatum was also a die hard Georgia Tech fan, having graduated from the university shortly after he returned home from war, and then working at Georgia Tech for the remainder of his professional life. The incredibly sweet and amusing obituary says a lot about the man, but perhaps nothing is more enjoyable than this bit:
He loved his family, his neighbors, Georgia Tech, the Atlanta Braves, bowling (he was a great bowler), the Atlanta Journal/Constitution (where his dad had worked), Waffle House, Hickory House and the Picadilly Cafeteria, and Little Debbie. He didn’t get his final wish for Tech, which to see Paul Johnson get fired, but hey, there’s still time.
This man fought for his country, risked life and limb, and Georgia Tech couldn’t even do one of its alumni and a decades long valued employee of the school have his final wish, seeing Paul Johnson fired? For shame, Georgia Tech. For shame.
Well, Tatum might not have gotten everything he wanted, but at least he’s in a better place now, a place without Paul Johnson. Here’s hoping there’s a Waffle House up there for him. What am I saying? It’s heaven, of course there’s a Waffle House.
Paul Johnson is the reason Tech stays mediocre. Tech has a pretty decent football history, great academics, and is in a recruiting hotbed. They should be better than they are. It would make our rivalry a lot better. Go dawgs
11 years ago at 6:34 pmIt never ceases to amaze me how Tech had Calvin Johnson on roster and still ran a triple option.
11 years ago at 7:03 pmThey didn’t start running the triple option until after he went to the draft. He played in the pro style offense under Chan Gailey
11 years ago at 7:08 pmThis is correct. They did, however run a triple option while having Demaryius Thomas on the roster, which is an almost as bad under-utilization of talent.
11 years ago at 7:45 pmTo be fair DT had some insane numbers when he was at Tech but it was definitely under utilization. He was recruited by Chan.
11 years ago at 11:00 amGetting called out by a dead guy, TPaulJohnsonMove. Btw, no word yet on which one of Tech’s 3 PR guys that Johnson’s gonna give this story to to write up a response.
11 years ago at 8:49 pmMy dying wish is to switch back to the old TFM layout.
