When Georgia Tech student Conor Lange organized a fundraiser for his favorite campus security guard, he couldn’t have predicted the impact he wound up making.

Lange rallied fellow students of the Scheller College of Business to raise $100 to $200 as a Christmas gift for security guard Marcus Burns. But after 36 hours, the group ended up with an incredible $1600 in donations.

Lange told FOX 5 about the warmth Burns brings to the student body.

“He is the most positive person, he brings so much energy to us everyday,” said the senior business student in an interview with a Georgia FOX affiliate. “He knows most of the students by name and we realized how many people loved him and we wanted to give back to him in the holiday season in the Christmas season.”

When Lange presented Burns with his gift, the moment was captured on video, which was posted to the university Facebook page and has since been viewed over 200,000 times. Dozens of students showed up for the surprise Christmas present. Burns was understandably emotional.

Georgia Tech Business School Undergrads Surprise Security Guard

Some students from the Scheller College of Business wanted to thank a security guard who always goes the extra mile to make their day a little bit better. They hoped to pull together $100 as a token of appreciation… but instead they showed the true spirit of the holiday season. Thanks for continuing show us why Georgia Tech is such an amazing place. #HappyHolidays.

Hard working people that get paid shitty wages and are still decent and friendly deserve things like this. Props to those who contributed. RFM.

Having your attitude is also NF. I hope you don’t actually carry this view IRL.

Good things happen to people who work hard at what they do. We should reward them instead of giving to the lazy like Obama does.
