GOP Leaders Want Mark Cuban To Run For President To Take Down Trump
Donald Trump has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way during his campaign. Many GOP leaders are begrudgingly backing Trump as the candidate solely because they don’t want Hillary to win. However, there is still a group of anti-Trump Republicans who want to make sure Trump doesn’t sniff a chance at the White House.
In an attempt to derail Donald’s chances, they have approached Mark Cuban to run in this year’s election.
From ESPN:
Mark Cuban told The Washington Post that a group of conservative politicians have asked him to run as a third-party candidate in this year’s presidential election.
The band of Republican politicians, according to the Post, is attempting to block presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and believes that Cuban, the outspoken billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, would resonate with voters.
This isn’t a terrible idea when you think about it. Cuban is a savvy businessman. He went from broke at 27 to the billionaire that he is today all on his own, so he can resonate with the voters. Not only that, but he’s already bashed Hillary’s student debt proposal. Cuban is fiscally conservative and knows what the GOP needs to make it great again. The only downside to this proposal is that running as a third-party candidate would split votes.
Cuban told the leaders that he wouldn’t do it because there isn’t enough time to put together a proper campaign. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of running again four years from now.
Asked by ESPN.com on Sunday if he would consider running for president four years from now, Cuban replied, “No comment.”

9 years ago at 11:18 amAnd his tax returns
9 years ago at 11:23 amLoved when he kicked the SEC’s ass.
9 years ago at 7:59 pmThis could’ve been a good idea a couple months ago but attempting damage control this late into the presidential race just shows how the establishment GOP is in shambles right now. This really could have been the year to endorse a truly conservative candidate because of the fact that Hillary may just be the worst candidate in the last 50 years. This election is just fucked.
9 years ago at 11:21 amThis election has been a shit show since the first day but lets face it, I dont think it could get worse for the GOP right now. Anything is better than the clown we have as face of the republican party. Reagan is turning in his grave right now.
9 years ago at 11:24 amListen the only thing that matters in this world is money (sadly). Trump knows money. Not saying he will solve all problems but he will turn the economy around because being in debt is not a joke
9 years ago at 12:59 pm“Trump is a businessman so he must know how to fix our economy. Are his actual policies he’s outlining sound terrible? Yes, but he’s a businessman so he must know what he’s doing.”
9 years ago at 6:07 pmI’m pretty indifferent in regards to Trump. People were saying similar things about Reagan before he got elected the first time. Didn’t have the background, experience, not a serious candidate bc he was a celebrity etc….he turned out pretty good. Personally, I think he’s worth the risk.
9 years ago at 3:34 pmA true conservative will never be elected. The social policies of the Republican party are going to be its death sentence.
9 years ago at 12:20 pmHell im a republican in Mississippi and Im thinking about switching to democrat because of the vile shit that our state legislature keeps pumping out.
9 years ago at 12:23 pmBye
9 years ago at 11:47 pmGary Johnson 2016?
9 years ago at 1:04 pmNot quite, this would have been a good idea 2 YEARS ago. The guys owns and operates a lot of businesses/products. As a “savvy businessman,” he’d need the time to ensure someone can successfully run each one of them for 4 years without his oversight, plus contingency plans (or at least enough time to sell).
9 years ago at 3:16 pmAfter reading about the recent Democratic Convention in Nevada I think the Democrats may be heading in that direction again soon.
9 years ago at 9:42 pmI’ve read this on quite a few different sources. It’s not “GOP Leaders”, it’s a small republican third party group trying to get him to run third party. He won’t beat Trump if he did run, it’s way too late. But he’s good enough and well-known enough to literally guarantee to take away enough voters to ensure Hillary wins.
9 years ago at 11:25 am“Republican third party group”
9 years ago at 11:50 amI have no response because you’re right, that was idiotically worded.
9 years ago at 1:25 pmThey might as well just hand Hillary the presidency with idiotic moves like this. If the guys a clown or not he’s still better than Clinton and the GOP needs to get their shit together. He won’t get anything done anyway, and we can try again in 4 years.
9 years ago at 11:36 amThis isn’t “a group of conservative politicians”, it’s a group of establishment republicans who would rather see Hillary as president. The group is led by Mitt Romney.
9 years ago at 11:45 amRepublicans elected Clinton president the moment trump won the nomination. At this point they might as well do damage control and reform.
9 years ago at 6:14 pmI think the best way forward for the GOP is to embrace libertarian values.
9 years ago at 12:14 pmOr just leave the GOP to break apart into a million pieces and start fresh with the Libertarian Party.
9 years ago at 12:48 pmIve been hoping this election cycle would cause the Republican party to implode. Id be excited to see libertarianism take its place
9 years ago at 1:01 pmI hate saying this because I hate the target audiences I’m about to suggest, but the potential greatness of it overrides that. From a social perspective, dropping the GOP (knowing it won’t entirely dissolve) to embrace the libertarian party would bring forth a lot of support from the mildly anti-government crowd and moderate Dems. It’d force a big change, an end to the two-party system. But we’re talking huge numbers and powerful people publicly dropping the GOP to be Libertarian. And I bring up the Dems because they’re pushing further and further away from the center just the same. Level-headed followers would have to go somewhere. Hell, a massive GOP abandonment now plus 4 years of Hillary/Bernie, we could be talking about a Libertarian leading the polls around this time in 2020.
9 years ago at 5:30 pmMark is by far the best presidential canidate that has been brought up. Cuban is basically a less offensive more civil version of Trump who may actually do what he says he will do
9 years ago at 12:24 pmDespite the fact that on a policy level they disagree wildly? Trump is a nativist, anti-free market protectionist with random neoconservative outbursts. Cuban is literally the opposite of those fundamental factors.
9 years ago at 6:11 pm“Cuban is a savvy businessman” but Trump isn’t? Yeah that makes a lot of sense
9 years ago at 12:54 pmCuban wasn’t born with a silver spoon up his ass.
9 years ago at 3:43 pmYou mean Mark Cuban, creator of Cyber Dust? No thanks.
9 years ago at 4:02 pmone of the many reasons why the GOP is so broken and could screw us all with their division and let Hillary win the White House
