Guy Attempts Romantic Proposal With Fireworks, Instead Sets College Campus On Fire

We’re in the midst of a marriage proposal arms race. Every time someone posts a video of the “new and unique” way he proposed to his girlfriend, it’s always a game of viral one-upmanship. Unfortunately for Dim Xiong Chien, he took the “arms race” part of the proposal a little too literally.

It’s a simple enough plan: have your girlfriend meet you at your university’s soccer field, set off some ballin’ fireworks, and get down on one knee as the glorious, explosive light display wows her into saying yes. It didn’t quite work out that way. Chien should’ve known that things were starting to go south when his girlfriend didn’t even show up. Not to be deterred, he set off the fireworks in an attempt to get her attention, because of course any girl looking for her boyfriend will immediately assume that a massive firework display is meant to be a signal flare to her, right?

By the time Chien tracked her down and brought her back, the whole place was an inferno. “I was feeling a bit surprised that she hadn’t shown up, and was completely unaware that the fireworks had set the grass on fire,” Chien said. “When I found her I said she had to come with me as there was something important I wanted to tell her and show her.”

The sports complex might be a stretch of ash now, but Chien hasn’t given up. He’s merely postponing the proposal for a later date, hopefully with fewer explosive devices. That may end up being a little difficult now, though, as her parents have completely turned on him as a potential son-in-law.

“Of course, I love him, but my parents have told me to steer clear, saying he can’t even ask me to marry him without causing a massive hoo-ha,” his girlfriend said.

Good luck with the next proposal, buddy. Try not to cause such a massive hoo-ha this time, though, okay?

Apparently this took place at Liaoning Advertisement Vocational College, which I can only assume is the Chinese version of ITTtech.

Being that the Chinese invented fireworks, you’d think Chien would be a little more proficient in this scenario. Also, who the fuck says “hoo ha”?

I’m pretty sure that the Chinese oracle states that this might be a bad sign for your marriage
