Preemptively writing an extremely detailed explanation of the joke’s meaning turns this paradigm on its head by exposing all potential sources of comedic tension, depriving the source material of any humor value within the context of the discussion. This leaves the long-winded explanation itself as comparatively the only humorous statement within the conversation.
