I Could Not Be More Out On President Obama’s Summer Playlist

Normally, I completely dismiss anyone trying to peddle me their playlists or mix tapes. The last time I tried to “support a starving artist,” I was drunk and some dude named Lonnie outside the club downtown sold me a mixtape that sounded like my asthmatic roommate trying to have sex after running a marathon.

But out of the corner of my eye, I saw that the Beach Boys and Aretha Franklin were featured, so I couldn’t help but peruse the rest of the list.

Honestly, I couldn’t get through the damn thing. It has more than it’s fair share of granola-hipster acoustics and R&B slow jams, though, there are some real sleepers tucked in between and a surprising amount of Goodfellas-esque music with a ’60s and ’70s feel to it that your father would enjoy.

I wanted to try to give you a list of songs to avoid completely, but I realized that I was including most of the playlist. But if you’re like me, and this isn’t your cup of tea, feel free to check out our latest Porch Jams.

There is one thing we can conclude from this playlist, and it’s that Malia probably took after her mother. I just hope that some of Obama’s work related decision-making is better than his taste in music.

I think it’s safe to say his work related decision making is not better than his taste in music.

At least if his time is consumed with his little playlist, that is less time he has to figure out the next terrorist state to give our money to.
