Ideal Songs For Porch Drinking Part 3
Thanks to feedback from readers like you, “Ideal Songs For Porch Drinking” is now a thing. When the sun’s out and you’re looking for some down time, queue these suckers up and have a couple draughts on the deck.
Fan Favorites are based on the top comment from the previous list and mine is whichever one I dig the most from your recommendations.
Fan Favorite: American Girl, Tom Petty
Suggested by George_Fratstanza. If you want to get your lady friends up and rocking, give Tom a couple plays. This one is sing along material for the whole crew.
Karl’s Favorite: Dire Straits, Walk of Life
Courtesy of Fratrick Henry III. The upbeat synth sound couples well with Dire Straits’ signature lyrical touch. A true jam for the ages.
1. Summertime, Sublime
America’s favorite ska band brings the heat with this one. It’s not quite that time of year yet, but the reggae-rap beats will have the deck rocking.
2. I Have a Name, Jim Croce
A great talent that we lost too soon, Jim Croce has a perfect blend of fun and introspective tunes. This one drifts to the latter, but the folk sound is ideal to spark a good porch discussion. That mustache is the stuff of legends, too.
3. Atlantic City, The Band
Naming your band “The Band” is a power move.
4. Hook, Blues Traveler
A perfect take on modern pop music, plus Emma Stone lip-synching it on Fallon gets me completely torqued.
5. Roxanne, The Police
If you don’t tell every Roxanne you meet “You don’t have to turn on the red light” as an opening line, you’re living life wrong.
6. Drink In My Hand, Eric Church
I can honestly say that most of my blackouts start with this song. Especially when I’m dragging ass at the end of the week.
7. Big Rock Candy Mountain, Harry McClintock
From “O Brother, Where Art Thou” which might be the best movie ever made after “Pulp Fiction”. Pairs particularly well with the setting sun.
8. Deep Cover, Dr. Dre FT. Snoop Dogg
Nobody can resist rapping along to Snoop’s “Maniac lunatic call me Snoop Eastwood” line and that’s a fact.
9. Against The Wind, Bob Seger (Live)
Expect Seger to be on here ALL THE TIME. I don’t get jealous, but I’m extremely envious of the first crowd to hear this song in concert.
10. Burnin’ For You, Blue Oyster Cult
Also one of the best road trip songs of all time. The opening riff alone is an absolute gift from the Rock Gods.
11. Foxy Lady, Jimi Hendrix
Ideal for when the hot sorority walks by. An essential air guitar song.
12. Proud Mary, Creedence Clearwater Revival
Keep your Tina Turner version, non-fraternitypes. As we’ve established, any CCR is good CCR.
13. Pure Cocaine, Yo Gotti
That Southern Smoke shit always gets me. “I’m so high I see Snow Mountain.” Classic.
14. Thank God I’m A Country Boy, John Denver
If anyone ever tells you there’s something wrong with a little fiddle, they’re a pleb. John-Boy is a shoe-in for any drinking experience.
15. Touch of Grey, Grateful Dead
The Dead have a very special place in my heart. Play this song at an alumni weekend and watch the old hats go bonkers.
Be sure to comment suggestions and keep this train rolling. You might be surprised what people will get down to. As always, don’t drink and drive..
