Indians Haze Rookies By Making Them Dress Up Like Cheerleaders

Rookie hazing is everywhere in pro sports. It doesn’t matter how talented a newbie was in college or how fast he was picked up in the draft, in the eyes of his seasoned teammates, he’s at the bottom of the totem pole. He can expect to foot the bill after an expensive dinner, have his head shaved into ridiculous patterns, be tied to a field goal post, or hold an impromptu practice on the landing strip after the private jet touches down.

In the MLB, the vets prefer to fuck with the rookies with good ol’ fashion public humiliation. I’ve seen major league rooks wearing “Dora the Explorer” and “Barney” backpacks trimmed with frilly lace, but the Cleveland Indians decided to step it up a notch for their rite of passage.

Yesterday, as the team loaded onto the bus, the rookies were decked out in full cheerleader attire. The look was completed with those stupid “Hoverboards” that have wheels and don’t actually hover.

Some people were less than pleased with the display, however.

Ah, hazing. Sure it has its pitfalls when people take things too far, but if we disband it completely, we miss out on some genuinely fun bonding opportunities..
