Jerry Jones Basically Admits He’s A Terrible GM And Shouldn’t Be Involved In Drafting

During the 2014 NFL Draft, we saw Johnny Manziel fall all the way to the 22nd pick when the Browns traded up to snag the duel-threat QB out of Texas A&M. However, the suspense of the draft was not the fall of Manziel, but rather when the Dallas Cowboys were on the clock with the 16th pick. I was working a Rangers game at FOX during the time and all the Cowboys fans in the room were getting all giddy that Jerry and Co. were about to pull the trigger on the firecracker that is JFF.

The Cowboys went down to the last second before selecting current All-Pro guard Zack Martin out of Notre Dame. The pick was lauded by analysts around the country. People thought that maybe, just maybe, Jerry Jones could be smart when it comes to picking 1st round players and did so by grabbing a “need” at OL instead of a “want” in Manziel. Whelp, it turns out that Jerry really, really wanted Manziel. In an interview on 105.3 The Fan’s K&C Masterpiece show on Tuesday, Jones talked about the current QB situation and that 2014 draft.

From Dallas Morning News:

Do you remember two years ago when we sat there right to the last second on the clock with Manziel? My whole point is, there you are,” Jones said. “That was the whole purpose of doing that. At that particular time, for a first-round pick, I thought that Romo had more time. And if we sat there and worked with Manziel for four or five years, now we all know what’s happened. We know the off-the-field issues. But on our board, one of our top five or six picks dropped down to us and it was at the quarterback position, and I absolutely was a vote of one in that room to basically go there.

Okay, so maybe he didn’t exactly admit that he is a terrible GM and that he shouldn’t be involved in drafting, but he was the only one in the war room who voted for picking Manziel — not even his cold-hearted son stood by his side.

The Cowboys are a mess with Jones running the show behind the scenes. Jason Garrett is nothing but a puppet in Jones’ play. Kinda wish they had drafted Manizel now.

They could probably throw a 5th round pick at the Browns for Johnny Football now.

Honestly, RG3 is one of the saddest stories to ever come out of the draft. So much potential, and then his own coach let him get fucked.

The fact that he isn’t putting Romo on injured reserve, just incase we make a long playoff run and he can come back just shows how delusional Jerry is

The fact that you think the Cowboys can make the playoffs, let alone go on a long playoff run, shows how delusional you are
