Jim Harbaugh Wears 8-Dollar Khakis
When one thinks of a stereotypical soccer coach, what image does one bring to mind? Probably a white (or off-white) guy standing on the sidelines in a tracksuit, looking pensive and flipping absolute shit whenever Ronaldo breathes too hard and knocks David Beckham unconscious. There are different flavors, but it’s typically the same dish. Basketball is the same way, except they wear suits, have interesting hair, and sometimes throw chairs. Hockey coaches are Canadian, and they look the part.
Football is a different beast, however, and that is why it is America’s passion rather than its pastime.
The same goes for coaches. Harbaugh is an impressive coach. He won the Orange Bowl, immediately inked a 5-year, $25 million dollar deal with the 49ers, and took them immediately to the NFC Championship game. The next year he took them to the Super Bowl. This year he again made it to the NFC Championship game this Sunday playing the Seahawks.
Harbaugh’s style, however, isn’t nearly as impressive as his résumé. News has recently come out that Harbaugh’s classic pleated khakis are of the $8 variety found at Walmart. His wife told KMVQ radio yesterday that she often throws out his pants.
“I’ve thrown (his pants) away many times. I threw them out and when he went to the combine, he found a Walmart. They were eight dollars. Eight dollars!”
There are many questions but few answers. I think Harbaugh sums it up pretty well:
“I reduce a lot of drag by not having to choose what [I’m] going to wear every day.”
