We Have Unearthed Jimmy Buffett’s Fraternity Composite Photo

Margaritas for days, cheeseburgers in tropical locales, and an internal clock that doesn’t go any earlier than 5:00 p.m. — singer/songwriter/restaurateur James William “Jimmy” Buffett lives the ideal life.

But before he was living the life we all want to live, Jimmy was living the life we currently live — that of a fraternity member. Below is Jimmy Buffett’s fraternity composite photo, which appears to have a story behind it that’s as interesting as the man himself.

What makes this composite picture so interesting? Well, Jimmy is an initiated member of Kappa Sigma at the University of Southern Mississippi — but that’s not where this composite picture was sent in from. When I asked my source to provide the name of the fraternity at which this picture was taken, she told me Sigma Pi at Auburn.

Normally, I would’ve just assumed that the Auburn Sig Pis had stolen the composite from the Southern Miss Kappa Sigs at some point. Your standard composite theft (though a little more high-profile). But, after some quick research, I discovered that Jimmy spent his freshman year at Auburn University before transferring out and eventually ending up at Southern Miss. So it appears, barring some very coincidental inter-state composite theft, that there’s a good chance Jimmy pledged Sigma Pi at Auburn his freshman year. Who knew?

If we find out any more information about Jimmy’s fraternity past, we’ll let you know. Either way, #JimmyBuffettForPresident..

Numerous sources have confirmed that Jimmy Buffett did indeed pledge Sigma Pi at Auburn his freshman year. One source even claims that Jimmy learned to play guitar in the Sigma Pi house from an older fraternity brother. Awesome if true.
